Maybe they picked up the Typhoon with no motor for a good deal.

Even a typhoon with a running stock motor is worthless to go fast. The support for that motor is dwindling, and you hit a brick wall at a point. The value of those trucks has fallen in the past few years, so picking one up in good condition for $8-10 grand is easy. I think its a great thing to do.

The story behind the truck is a little more than that. Jim, the guy that had this Twin Turbo LT1 Camaro (http://www.fquick.com/garages/Chevrolet/Camaro_SS/1996/3636/) was building a warhawk 427 based setup for it. Then decided to just sell the Camaro and put the parts in a Typhoon. However he couldn't find one that was worth cutting up and that wasn't too nice to modify. So he put the parts in his Z06 (http://www.fquick.com/garages/Chevrolet/Corvette_Z06/2007/19204/). His buddy Dan figured it was a great idea and he happened to find a Ty that worked out great for the project.

Before I bought my TBSS I was looking for Typhoons for 6 months - I just could not find one that was super nice and didn't cost as much as a used TBSS.
