besides the court house ofcourse :thumbsup Looks like we will have about 40 people at the wedding, and sending out 300 invites for the after party. We are looking for 2 locations somewhat close to each other, and we both grew up in Milwaukee so we would like to be wed somewhere in Milwaukee. No churches.

Anyone have a good suggestion? Looking to spend 1500 between both locations tops, and we already ruled out the Pabst Mansion.

Also, we are looking for something that we can do the wedding outside OR inside if the weather doesn't look good. Pabst Mansion was a 1st choice for us but its out of our price range. Its looking like it will be in Spring of 2010, month of May. And of course most of BCM is invited to the after party :)

Light tower on the bluff near bradford beach, right there by the golf course? There is also that garden that goes up the bluffs as well that looks really nice.

Plan for outside...but, have in reserve a tent if it's looking iffy. That's what Meg and I originally planning.

We go married in Meqoun and called the parks dept. We found that as long as we weren't restricting peoples access, we could get married, no permits. We in the end didn't ask about using an awning or tent company since the clubhouse we used for dinner/recption could have been pressed into wedding duty too if need be. Use of something like an awning or tent would have likely resulted in the need for a permit/permission.

Nice thing about outdoors, civil ceremony is it takes no more than 15 minutes...we only set up a couple chairs for those who couldn't stand, a trestle, some white plastic to serve as an aisle, and minimal flowers. Very tasteful, very inexpensive and easy to set-up.

We looked into the domes when we got married and they charged X amount of dollars for the space and then each guest had to pay to get into the domes also. It was in 96 so it may have changed since then.

Lake Villa Terrace is over as well. And we are trying to find a place IN Milwaukee, not Milwaukee area. Thanks for all the suggestions though :thumbsup

The park idea with a tent might be a good option...wonder how much a permit would cost?? Lots of nice parks around.

For the after party, lake front brewery has an awesome hall you can rent. It's right on the lake in a cool old brick building. Nice outdoor (for smokers) and indoor bar. I never had the food though, so I can't comment on that.

All great suggestions! The Kalatrava, Is the art muesum. But, the great thing about that is you can take pics there without having to spend the money of getting married there!. The Miller Room is near by, I don't know if that is an option for you or Lake Front Bistro (which is the park/golf course) By Bradford Beach that someone suggested. I'm a wedding photographer, Here are a few images of those places

Don't bother with the domes, it's ~220 tops in the hallway area and ~40 tops in one of the domes. Aside from that you're looking at north of $3k as I recall.

If I could do it all over again I would have spent about $15k less.

No matter how much you think or she says "It's he most important day in our lives..." never use that for you decisions.

Hind sight is 20/20 though...

I don't think they do the pay-by-the-head thing anymore; I think it's lumped in the cost.

Yes, it can be hot in the domes. The acoustics are funny and their sound system is crappy, so when the priest/rabbi/witch doctor is addressing the people who crammed in the dome, and the mic cuts out, then it's a few dozen people sitting/standing in awkward silence. :/

This is a good idea. The Miller Room is pretty nice. Being able to take photo's at the Art Museum is really nice.

The wife and I looked at that option. But we decided on The Grain Exchange on Michigan Ave.

This place is arguably the most beautiful place in the city for a wedding. What's so great about it is you don't have to decorate it at all. All we did was put small tea light candles around the columns and along the top balcony. We have like 300 guests and everyone has told us years later that our wedding was the best wedding they've ever been to and we believe it was mostly because of the Grain Exchange. When you walk in and see the 175' ceilings your jaw drops. And even better IIRC it was about the same price as places like the Miller Room. But unlike the Miller Room who you have to have the Zilli's (they are pretty expensive) cater at the Grain Exchange you can have anyone cater your event. We used Albaneses of Mequon do ours. The Filet we had with them was wonderful. The location and the food were probably the two most important parts of the event for us. Lastly just like the Miller Room you can drive 3 blocks down Michigan Ave and take some photo's at the Art Museum.

And yeah in case you are wondering I was totally into our wedding unlike most guys that just want to know what day they have to show up. I'm a creative. What do you expect. lol.

Holy shit! Their prices went up then. It was not that expensive just 3 1/2 years ago when I got married there. Damn that sucks.

The Miller Room is nice. But the Zilli's catering is gonna even things out.

You might want to think about that. If one place is going to charge you less for the hall but the catering is expensive then it might end up being the same as having an expensive hall and lesser expensive catering. That definitely played a factor in our decision. But like I said we didn't skimp. We still had fillet, and sit down with white glove service.
