Alright so i put a K&N ram air on the gti a while back, and the oiled filter killed my thermostat, so would an AEM paper filter work better? I dont know what kind to use without throwing off the MAF readings.

thanks,
jeff

how is an oiled filter going to do anything to the T-stat??? do you mean like an intake air temp sensor, or mass air flow sensor?

yea i have no clue, because alot of stuff went at the same time. I had to clean the MAF and then the thermostat went along with the water pump, so I had no clue what it was.

I am working at a VW dealer and we do thermostats and coolant temp sensors 3-5 times a week... not the air filter would be my guess

yeah, i work at a chrysler dealer, cant say ive ever seen an airfilter cause a t stat failure, but im sure our service writers would put it on an RO.

as far as the MAF sensor, your best bet is switching to a AEM dryflow filter, flows just as good as a K&N, but without the oil.

Jeff it was your MAF that the K&N goofed up, and yes getting a AEM paper filter will be fine as long as it's not oiled.

Yes the new filter well work. But, it's a total waste of money. It has been proven a few times that an intake filter on the 1.8t engine does absolutly nothing.

However, if you boost a lot, it has been known that the intake rubber pipe colapses. So buy an intake that is reinforced.
