So the wife says she wants a different car. She was in the minivan for the past 5 years, a 1999 7 pass Olds Silouhette. The 7 pass was great, then we had Jorja and suddenly needed 8 pass, enter the Suburban. Anyway, Jorja will be 4 in a month and she kind of realized that she was still driving a minivan that could not hold everyone.

I pushed a car or two her way but on Friday she said she wanted a Jetta (loves the Germans) so we go Jetta hunting. Find a few but then she sees a Golf that she likes. I hadn't even pointed it out, I though she would hate it. Much to my happiness it is a VR6 with a 5 speed and the full on GLX model. She didn't have a clue what motor or anything is in this thing, just that it is nice, it is silver and it has a sunroof. I didn't let on that it is a little pocket rocket, it kind of even took me by surprise, it is alot faster than I remembered these things being.

It is stock and awfully utilitarian looking but goes like snot and handles great. Needs tint and wheels if you ask me....and maybe an exhaust...and a cold air intake....

Scott, I just want to make you aware that that body style GTI's with the VR6 have many electrical issues with them. I had a 2001 GTI with the VR6 and only put on 8k before i got rid of it. the day i bought it, the mass air flow sensor went out. 5 months later the temp sensors went out and the car was overheating itself. At the same time, the emissions was goofy and took out the catylitic converter.

Those are trouble. Just hope your wife's is a good one.

Thats good info. I have read about issues with the coil packs as well. There isn't anything I can think of right now that is odd with the electronics but be assured I will be paranoid and watch everything now, lol. I thought something was amiss with it last night, I heard a light whirring after I shut it off. I popped the hood and it was back by the brake fluid reservoir. Came to find out it is some sort of secondary water pump that runs for up to 10 minutes after you shut the car off that helps cool the car.

My gripe right now is the cup holder, I broke the f'ing thing already, some real flimsy plastic there and it is the only cup holder in the whole car. the Germans need to drink more soda.

Really? The guy buys a new car and everyone has to remind him that SOME VW's have electrical issues?

Scott - Congrats on the purchase. I had a 1.8t Jetta and loved it and had no problems at all other than it being broken into :)

So are you going to buy a hitch and a trailer to haul the other four passengers?

The car looks really clean Scott and I hope that you enjoy it. That thing has to be more fun to drive than a minivan. :rolf
