That sky couldn't have got much clearer today, a shame the temps did not follow the lead. Good magic hour shots of the tower :)

We were driving home from dinner, saw it, had to pull the car over. I was standing out in traffic in the round-about there, but it was well worth it.

I first read the title and thought you were shooting guns and then i saw the first picture and thought you had shot it up or something. I am glad that wasn't the case. Awesome pics man. What kind of camera do you use with what lens

LOL, I left the guns at home yesterday. The camera I use is a Nikon D90. As far as lenses, it was a mix between my Tamron 17-50 f2.8, and my Nikon 55-200 (its farewell shoot I might add, clearing way for the Sigma 70-200 2.8) The imprtant thing to note, as has been the theme lately, is that all the pictures you see here, scotts, nicks, etc. have all been through post production (editing). The camera and the lens alone do not take the pictures as you see them here without a little work on the pictures itself in photoshop, lightroom, some program like that......For example here are two of the original directly from the camera...

Well let me just say you do an awesome job. I just recently bought a Canon Rebel XSI and still trying to figure it out. Having a lot of trouble with action shots they seem to come out blurry especially when it getrs darker out

what lens are you using? MM and max apt. (fstop)?

The MM I think you are referring to is the lens that it came with which is 18-55mm I believe and I have no idea what you mean or how I would find out what the max apt(aperture I think) is.

I don't know what MM means either.

I guess it depends if he meant MM or mm and didn't think nothing of it

Pretty sure he meant focal length by "mm". Meaning, the longer the focal length the more possible movement will effect the shot. The fstop range should be right on the lens, something to the effect of f/3.5-5.6 or something like that.

If action shots are blurry in darker conditions it is because you shutter speed is too low. Depending on the action 1/150 to 1/250 is needed to freeze most action. Kick your iso up and keep your lens wide open. To keep the lens wide open you will need to stay in the 18-25mm range of that lens since the lowest fstop is only available at that length. The further you go out, say to 40mm, your minimum fstop will rise.

Your other choice is to turn your flash on at which point you can go up to 1/200 shutter speed which will freeze all but the quickest action.

I think I understand. I will just have to play with it

Basically, take your fstop as low and your ISO as high as you need it to to get your shutter speed up. Watch your noise levels as you get above ISO800 though

I don't think my Canon goes any higher than 800

i did mean focal length, but I thought to simplify it if you were unsure of what I meant, but I guess it ended up being the opposite.

And my point was basically what scott said. You needs a lens with a large max app. to allow the max amount of light in and a short exposure so things wont get blury.

and just to clarify a bit....

F-Stop & apature are the same, they refer to the size of the opening created by your lenses that light passes through. a small apature like F 1.4 Will allow a lot of light in, while a larger number like F 22 will allow a little light in. Even though the numbers work like that they are refered to backwards, F 1.4 (or whatever the smallest apature is) is called the Max Apature.

ISO refers to the sensors sensitivity to light, the lower the better quality.

Exposure - the amount of time light is allowed to hit the sensor, again the least amount, the less chance for blur...however you need enough light to properly expose a picture.

Its all about balancing everything out, esp. in low light situations.

Thanks for the info guys. Like I said I will just have to play with it and see how it goes. Trial by error right
