Anyone know why that would be?

Depends on how old your other ones are they change them out every so many years can't remember is 7 is the right number or not

Sounds like just a simple mistake.

Was there any extra fees?

the old style plates had red characters and the first set of characters were 3 letters. now they are making them blue/black characters and numbers come first... they are working on phasing out the old style. my pops had the old style and this year on his renewal he got new plates as well

Actually, its only same numbers/letters if you have personalized plates. If you just have regular plates it could be anything.

Last year I got new plates for my T/A when I renewed the registration... I had the same red lettered original plates since I bought the car new in 1995, so it is just a matter of getting the red plates out of the system, not just a 7 year thing...

And since I don't have vanity plates the new plate numbers don't match.

That's it then, knew I wasn't completely off base......:thumbsup
