Anybody else getting countless forwards/warnings about a virus that is supposed to hit tomorrow, coincidentally on April Fool's Day.

Eh, who knows. Depends on what they want to do. Taking down all the computers would be useless to most hackers/coders since they need to make profit off of it. If anything its just going to steal shit if you have it.

It's a threat, they just don't know how bad. It's a virus that's hard coded to call home on 04/01/09. It will get instructions from there. I prepped our servers and clients for it. Microsoft released a patch which most users should get from automatic updates. Microsoft also put a $250,000 bounty on the authors head. So, I'd say it's somewhat serious.

Just do scans and patches. Backup any info you have that you dont want to lose if you are really paranoid.

There is a patch from windows. I forgot the link, but I had to patch every single f-ing windows machine at my work today. It takes about 2 minutes per computer. Really easy.

I work in the IT field and I never heard of a virus were people knew about it before it actually became active. Normally from my experiance it when someone makes a huge fuss about it before it happens it turns out to be just a hoax

You need to rent War Games and Sneakers. I like War Games because it's old school hacking... but Sneakers is probably more realistic. What I'm waiting for is Neuromancer (a William Gibson book) to come out. It's supposedly finally in production after being hinted at back in the 80s.
