I always hear of diesel guys talking about "fire ringing" their head or block. Is this actually reffering to O-ringing the head or block or is this something different? The fire ring is physically part of the head gasket and then a O-ring is installed around the fire ring to keep it from blowing out... at least thats how it is on gassers and thats just called O-rining.... Just something i was wondering about the other day.

The machining process for the fire-rings is similar to that of the o-rings. The difference is how they seal. The fire-rings utilize a head gasket that is laser-cut to fit around them. The rings seal against the deck of the block instead of the gasket. These fire-rings and handle everything from your average tow rigs to a vicious sled puller

:rolf fire rings basically what yeehaw said. devoloped by Scheids diesel performance after he was fed up on blowing head gaskets with o-rings. a O-rings are where you cut the head for a stainless steel ring, the gasket is the same as a stocker. Fire rings are where the block AND or the head are cut on a mill and a copper wire is installed between them. The gasket is cut so the fire ring on the gasket is removed. The wire takes its place and is clamped really tight between the head and the block. o-rings in a diesel last about 60-65psi with studs. a fire ring will withhold 80 plus on the head and over 100psi with block and head.

lol.... I actually made this post before i saw the video of smoking ram dressed up like a police officer talking about his diesel!! Thats actually pretty interesting, i initially thought it was the same as o-rining the block and the diesel performance shops just called it something different so morons with diesels would pay big $$ to have it done, but i guess you learn something new everyday!! thanks!
