I have always wanted to do a project car, and especially an old P/U. I have been searching for about a month now for a 53-56 Ford F100 and the ones that are in my price range are rust buckets. I have a 94 F-150 straight and true, no rust at all. Should I project my truck or keep looking for an oldie??:headbangI already know what Yoos is going to say, but wanted BCM's opinions!!

The 94 F150 will never be worth anything, where as building an F100 you should get most if not all and then come when it comes time to sell. That, and it would get a hell of a lot more looks.

keeping checking the usual: Jefferson is coming up, craigslist, cars-on-line.com, ebay. You'll find one.

I have a '79 F150 project that I'll never get to. Interested?

I also like the '53-'56 pick-ups. Always wanted to do one "old school" with a hot rodded, flat head V8.

My dream truck is a '34 Ford. I just passed on a '35 pick-up that was a decent deal.

Too many possible projects, and not enough space or money.

I got your pm, and did put the feelers out. All I have now is a rust-free 1962 Falcon 2dr with no engine-trans. I'll let you know when I hear of something.

I appreciate the offer but I am not interested in the 79. I wanna build a Hot Rod...If I was going to build a custom 4x4, I would most def take the 79, they look diesel lifted..Thanks again!!

Why not start from scratch? You could pick up one of those rust buckets... even find one that's "just a title" and build a 'glass one.

There used to be a kit to put an old-school ('glass) F100 cab and bed on a newer chassis too...

Also don't count out the '51-'52s. They look pretty much the same, with the grille being only slightly different. I used to have a '51 myself (I also still have the TITLE for a '51 in case I decide to follow above plan....).

EDIT: Here's a '51:

I am looking for 1800 for the Falcon.
I have been doing resto's for 25plus years. Be patient and find a project someone ran out of money on, a rust-free truck or something nice for low money because of the economy. DO NOT buy a sh#@ box and redo everything- it will cost too much and discouragement is just around the corner! It seems less expensive, but it is not!!

Be open to traveling. I drove to Colorado with the wife, a friend and a trailer to get a car I bought. Even with the gas there is no way I could've found a 64 in the same shape for anywhere near the same money. Car and trip cost me about $1500 together.
Besides saving money roadtrips rock and give you a lot of good memories, like figuring it would be easy to find a hotel room when we got there:rolf

When we got my 64 (about an hour east of Pueblo) you wouldn't believe all the old trucks just sitting in peoples yards in the middle of nowhere, and we saw a lot of nowhere on that trip, I topped of the tank at every chance since I never knew whne the next town would come up:rolf
