Stock not important, could have a million rounds
thru it. Just looking for a functional action with
barrel still attached preferably.
For my kid, he has $100-$150 on hand, I'll chip
in more if nice action or stainless. (custom project).

If you are probably goin to replace everything on the rifle except the receiver...ever think about a NoDakSpud 10/22 receiver?

Yeah but if you look around, you can probably get a complete rifle for that price.

ask around
Here's a NEW Stainless one for $200: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=13305

Yeah.....one with a plastic trigger group and painted internals (where the parts slide against each other) on the receiver and bolt.
Plus the one you listed only has a stainless barrel. Considering it's a project....he'll probably go with a .920 barrel anyway.

All the local ones I have seen are thumbhole stocked or other
optioned items. What ever happend to the $150 K-mart specials
you could buy on any given day, blue steel and crap wood?

They are 90% plastic now. Not many stores around here carry them.
If you get one with a thumbhole...I'll trade you for my 10/22T stock...... REAL wood :thumbsup.

There's nothing at all wrong with the plastic trigger groups, and the painted internals is just paint on the inside of the reciever. I stripped mine out just by cleaning it with a good wire brush. Some guys soak them in brake fluid overnight.
Bottom line is, there's nothing at all wrong with the newer 10/22's.

nothing wrong with it. I understand they are perfectly functional....I just do not prefer polymer stuff if I can get metal stuff for a similar price

The metal ones are getting a premium because everyone is afraid of the plastic.

I saw a few 10/22's (1 with all metal parts :D) at fletchers for around $200....gander in waukesha had a few used as well but you gotta bend over to get one of those.
