I built one of these today and I am picking up 38 channels, 26 of which come in in HD.

The 2x4 only needs to be 20 inches long.

I wonder......when we go camping we have alot of trouble out in the woods getting stations. I wonder if I could build the same thing and get it to work in the middle of nowhere. Good video, thanks!

Indeed, I will let you know how it works in racine. Thats kind of the middle of no where :) Built it to use at the apartment down there by the lake.

Doesn't work so good in racine, still better then an amplified antenna. W/ amped antenna I picked up 16 channels, with this one 22.

Granted there all not watchable channels but you will get all the locals and their alternate feeds. I think 4 has a weather only feed. Channel 10 had about 6 different feeds. Amazing difference between the analog and digital 1080i.

you basically hook this up to a tv with out a cable box?? is that what they are doing?

Hook it up to the tv RF(antenna/cable) connection or digital converter box. Set your tv to antenna input, let your tv or converter box find the channels and watch.

built 2 of them today one for my living room 52" samsung 1080p and for my bedroom 32" plasma 1080 insignia. Get more channels in my room, tried putting it in a bunch of different locations, get about the same amount of channels. get 20 digital in my room, 16 in the living room. worth the 9 bucks i paid for the materials for 2 of them.

I already have a ginormous antennae hanging in the rafters in the garage, which then goes to an amplifier, out to 2 tv's. I live next to radio towers and I pretty sure they cause a ton of interference. HD antennae's are directional. You want to point them towards the broadcasting towers.

Most of ours come from North Port Washington Rd and E. Capitol Drive

Point your antennaes toward there.

If you dug around on the electronics project sites you could probably find the schematics to make a cheap amp for it too.

Just plugged in a set of rabbit ears off an ancient 13" TV that was down in the basement, and my TV picks up all the Milwaukee HD / Digital stuff fine.

No mounting, nothing special, it's just laying on the back of the TV stand.

I don't understand why people believe they need to buy some kind of fancy 'digital' antenna, when almost any old thing will work fine.

^ that really depends on where you live. Distance and interference can play roles in what you get away with.
