Whats the difference between backspacing and and wheel offset? If I want to buy a new set of wheels that would position the wheel/tire a little bit further away from the frame of the vehicle, what kind of backspacing would I want? A higher number or a lower number?

backspace is measured from the mounting surface of the rim/axle to the inside bead. the smaller the BS the further it will "stick out".

im putting larger and wider tires on a truck and im afraid of them rubbing on the frame when at full steering lock so I want them to be "pulled away" from the frame just a tad more then the stock wheels will do.

So a wheel with a backspacing of 3.75" will stick out and help push the tire/wheel away from the frame more so then a wheel with a backspacing of 6"?

I suppose I should measure my factory wheels to determine which backspacing would be appropriate for the next set of wheels...

Backspacing = ol' school way of measuring wheels.....

Offset = 'new' way of measuring wheels.....

Both are the same thing really, it just depends who you are dealing with and what terminology they use......

so if I remember correctly, the best way to measure backspacing would be to get a flat object that would stretch across the diameter of the wheel at the inside bead and then use that as a measuring point to measure down to the mounting surface?

Yup.....:)

another question, no need to make a new thread.....

what would be the largest width tire you can fit on a 7" wheel and an 8" wide wheel? I'm talking truck tires. I want to get a set of 33" diameter tires, and I was thinking about 10" wide tires. Would those fit properly on a 7" wide or 8" wide wheel?

I have 35" x 12.5" tires mounted on a set of 8" wide rims on my 01 Dodge Ram. I have some slight rubbing that would go away with a 7" rim, They would rub like crazy with a 10" wide rim, and they would stick out a rediculous amount on my truck.

im thinking about a set of 15x8 wheels with 33x10" tires for an s10 blazer

33x10? That sounds like a retarded size. Most 33's are 12.5's. How much lift you runnin?

if I have to go 12.5 then thats fine. 2" lift front and rear

If its a 4x4 then your going to have issues making that fit. supposily it take a 2" body lift, and moving the tires out 1.5" in the front and 3" in the rear to fit a 33x10.5 the 33x12.5 is to wide unless you start hacking the body or do a suspension and body lift

88Nightmare

well its got a 2" suspension lift so what would you recommend for tires?

31x10.50's

That weezy 2.8 is gonna have a hard enough time turnin' them, 33's might give it an anurism.

31's are fine, I was just hoping for something beefier. I can always up the gear ratios too if need be

The stuff I posted above was with shackles and tbars cranked.

I would suggest the 31s also

You can fit 33's just fine on a stock Z71 with stock wheels all you have to do is crank the stock keys up a little to level it out, and get it aligned. On your truck you won't be able to run the s10 blazer 15x8 the smallest wheel you can fit is a 17 inch wheel due to the larger brakes. What kind of 2inch lift kit are you using?

My stock wheels are only 16" so what do you mean I can only run a 17" wheel? My brakes are new but still stock. OEM replacements. I didn't upgrade my brakes.

And its pieced together, but most of the parts are Rough Country. I have Rough Country tubular upper control arms, Rough Country torsion bar keys, Rough Country shocks, and generic rear leaf spring shackles

I believe My buddy Brent meant to say 16" is the smallest you can go, Not sure but I thought 06" the smallest you could go was a 17" wheel?

uhhh, im doing this on a 1987 S10 Blazer, not my Silverado. And on the silverado, the smallest you could go was a 17". But actually on my 1987 S10 Blazer, my stock wheels are 15"
