I'm looking for a hand-held vacuum to help clean up the animal room inbetween full carpet vacuuming. Between the litter from the cat litter boxes and the chinchilla cage, it gets all over and I rather use a quick hand-held one each day.

Something quieter would be nice so the chinchillas and ferrets don't get scared and obviously it needs to have decent suction too.

Would be handy to use when cleaning out the cars as well.

Anybody have one that they like and can recommend? Or have tried one and wasn't very impressed? I would get a Dyson because I hear nothing but good things, but I can't see spending that much for a hand-held vacuum.

Thanks!

8lb. ORECK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been using mine 4 times a day for the past 2 years, and this was a hand-me down that probably has 5 years on it.

How about the Suck-Kut? (Flowbee)

Yeah, I know....haha funny.

I would go with the Dyson DC17 for a full upright, and I use the "Shark" 15.6V cordless handheld. It has a motorized brush attachment and a couple other attachments. It does especially well on stairs and carpet and provides decent suction for a small handheld. Unfortunately, the battery charge only lasts around 15 minutes before requiring a recharge. It is usually enough for me to do 2 flights of stairs, and the front entranceway to my house before you noticably hear it slowing down. The filter is removable and hand-washable and does decent. As for noise, well, it isn't quiet, but it is definitely quieter than my upright. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009RF81A

Another option would be shopvac. http://www.shopvac.com/vacs/list.asp?hdnSource=index&Browse=quiet
