Definitly... Just find someone thats selling there bike for whats its worth, not some insane price.... 3K should pick up a VERY nice sport Bike... As far as the beat to shit part... Well it comes with the territory, people dont buy those bikes to be nice to them.

Point about the beating they take is understood. Can you guys recommend which bikes are most likely to hold up best in that range?

I'd highly recommend a cbr f3 or even an f4 or f4i if you look hard I bet you can find one. I've seen 600rr's even go for 4ish so i'm assuming you will find something. The bikes are made to be beaten on, and as long as they are maintained correctly you have nothing to worry about. Good luck!

Depending on how tall you are or what you weigh, I know someone "Tony" from Best Buy in Delafield selling a ZX-9 and looking to get $3500 for it. I haven't looked at the bike, but all his stuff is nice, so he is looking to sell a few toys to get that next big dollar toy.

Id start looking for a Suzuki GSXR 600, 750, 0r 1000, probably 03-04. If you look hard enough you will find one of these in your price range. Ive owned alot of different sport bikes, the zuks are most definitly the toughest of the bunch....

Do yourself a favor though, look outside of wisconsin, for some reason people here are ******* crazy when it comes to selling this kind of stuff, its very rare to find one for a reasonable price around here.

$3000, yes you can find a ok bike for that. It's going to take some time to find one and it'll have scraches or be old. Also, you can't be picky at all. Can't really look for a certin model, can't expect new tires or perfect trans.

$4000 you'll find a nicer bike a lot quicker. Keep in mind a lot of sellers are frim on price too.

This is the worst time of the year to be looking.

Buying in the spring, prices are higher and people won't move on price much since everyone wants a bike. In the fall is when bikes really move at a good price or even winter months.

If you are going to buy one, I recommend doing it before it gets warm out. The prices will go up with the air temp.

You should be able to buy a 2 year old one with 2000 miles on it for that price.

Check out some SV650's like mine scott. They can go from 2500 to 5900 new.

I got my 2007 with 3500 miles for 4900

Easily. Last year I bought a 97 CBR 600 F3 with 11k miles, a lot of extras like a nice carbon fiber D&D pipe, in very decent shape for $2500. I would think prices are even cheaper now, the way the economy is getting worse daily...

Well, from what I seen the economy hasen't had a huge impact on bike prices. Every now and then you'll find a really cheep bike that the seller just lost his job, but that's rare. Like everyone else said, if you want a bike for spring, you got to buy it NOW. Like within 10 days. Or wait. Prices go crazy high in spring. Don't be against buying a bike on ebay and having it shipped. Shipping is dirt cheep.

Who the hell puts 17k miles on Honda Rebel 250CC?

Who the hell puts 17k miles on Honda Rebel 250CC?

That's what I first thought. Then I did the math, 2000, 8 years, only a little more than 2k per year. So not really too many miles.

Now if it is a single owner machine, who would keep a Rebel 250 for 8 years? It better have at least 4 previous owners, otherwise they are all crazy.
