I don't understand why this is so expensive. How can anyone justify that kind of money for a digital camera?

What types of applications is this body used for? How many people use these? Who uses them?

Ummm...50-megapixel! WTF!

Each photo is 65 Megabites in .3fr compressed format! Holy smokes! (their compressed .3fr format is 33% smaller than a .raw format!)

The 2GB CF card holds only 30 images on average!
Even better, It takes 1.1 seconds per capture, and can take 33 photos per minute!

Flash can be employed at 1/800ths of a second! Pixel size is 6-micro pixels! Holy shnikes!

The tilt/shift features seem pretty kickass though.

Made for extremely precise photos in dim light conditions....Do I smell porn industry??

Otherwise, the only useful thing for this crazy of a camera would be to take this kind of picture, and have it reduced to fit the building!

A guy I am meeting up with later this month shoots with a 20-some-thousand dollar Hasselblad, I will let you know :)

But seriously, medium format cameras like that are for professionals whose livelihood depends on the pictures they take. They are gawdawful heavy (5lbs-ish I think) so they are really used mainly in tripod studio work.

The Mamiya DL28 is 28 megapixel and $15000 if you want into the medium format game cheap

The body can be applied to a lot of different applications, advertising, location, fashion etc. What really ups the price is the back. The higher the MP the higher the price. Hasselblad really threw a wrench into the professional community when the H3 body only accepts Hasselblad backs. H1 and H2 could be outfitted with other brands of digital backs.

A lot of studios use those bodies with a variety of brands of backs. I've seen some fashion guys hand hold them (H1/H2) but more often they are mounted to a tripod. You want to see a beast take a Mamiya RZ 67 with a digital back. That sucker is heavy.

Hasselblad isn't the only company that makes digital backs, Sinar, Leaf, and Phase One produce great equipment. You can find some used digital backs right now for around 10K.

NICK..do you really have to ask..Hasselblad is the #1 camera in MF...they were big bucks with film and i bought them...now they want to be #1 in digital MF....workmanship on these are second to none...the lenses alone demand $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and are well worth the thousands you pay for one lens...

Hasselblad will be around while others fall...how many different digital cameras has Canon come out with..they are always changeing the camera...Hasselblad haS 3 digital camers that i know of..this one..2 others i think and the 503CW with a digital back...
to me the camera is well worth the money laid out...uses will be top line model shoots and advertising i'm sure..not like you will do just weddings with this baby....i've used Hasselblad for years..weddings,senior grads, and family protraits and autos...you can't beat the 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 film neg..when you blow the pic up..the detail just pops out...so i'm sure the mega pixal on the MF digital WILL DO THE SAME...

want to borrow one...:devil

That is the reason why I bought my 503CW in 2000. Digital backs were just starting to hit the market and they were being developed to fit Hasselblad bodies. I decided that if they took a Hasselblad to the moon it would be good enough for me.:thumbsup
