View Full Version : Please Pray for My Grandpa

My Grandpa has been in the hospital since last Monday. He went in because he was having a lot of pain in his back due to a possible bone fracture. He has had poor health for many years and this winter has taken a toll on him. He has Kidney Disease and has been on the verge of dialysis for over a year. The kidney doctor feared that his body was too weak for him to go on dialysis. My Grandma has done all she can to prevent him from going on dialysis (special diet/homemade food, etc). On Friday he was transferred to ICU due to fluid retention in his chest. They performed dialysis Friday night and removed 2 1/2 quarts of fluid (toxins) from his body. They also performed dialysis again Saturday morning and removed another 2 1/2 quarts of fluid (this session had to be cut short b/c his blood pressure dropped too low). They want to perform it again but he is too weak to handle it. Due to the fluid in his chest he is having trouble breathing so he is wearing a mask that makes breathing easier. The doctors and nurses are telling us that his future is very iffy at this time. He may or may not turn around. Whatever the outcome is we are also thinking of the positive, he is 89 years old and has had a long fulfilling life.

We are at the hospital now, and things are not looking good. He has developed pneumonia making his entire body sick. He is very weak and his blood pressure is low. The doctor is thinking about performing dialysis again in the morning, however it depends on his blood pressure and his strength.

Greg and Lynn hang in there prayers are on the way. Vicki is still recovering from her bout with pneumonia it is a horrible thing to get past when your young and healthy. Just hang in there.If you need anything you have our numbers.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and kind words! It means a lot to us. Unfortunately he passed away on Monday. My mom got a call around 2am Monday morning from the hospital saying that he was not doing good at all. They said his heart rate was fluctuating a lot, it even stopped for about 30 seconds. We all rushed in to be with him during his last moments on Earth. Just like he has always done, he fought to the very end. He passed away around 2pm. We are all sad but we also thought about the positive. He had a long, wonderful life and lived through a lot. Once again thank you all for the prayers and positive thoughts!

Looking on the positive side, at least he is out of pain. He can rest now and his struggle is over. I'm sure he is in a better place.

Greg and Lynn, so sorry for your loss. But as others have said, he's in a pain free state now and gets a front row seat to watch over you guys from now on. Prayers with you guys and the whole family.

I know how you feel. I was with my Mom when she died last January. It's a difficult thing to go through.
