I have a couple of tats already and each one has a meaning to me which i always tell people who get their first at least have them mean something as they are too permanent.....anyway. When I was a kid my aunt and grandmother painted this picture below it was done on felt and used the old school "chemart" tubes with the metal roller ball. I went off to live at other places and didnt know it got done till I was a teenager. When I got out of the navy I asked for the painting but no family member knew where it was and after a few months I found it in a garage at my cousins so I have owned it ever since.

Well today I finally started to make it permanent. This is only sitting 1 of possibly 3 to get completed with touch ups and such. The next one is most of the color as I just couldnt sit anymore. Most of the shading will be done with color.
The old man will stay black and white and the surroundings will all be color to try and show him as a ghost. Will be neat to see final result with all the sky, water, clouds and such are done. The US NAVY text was already there so trying to incorporate it best as possible

You really dont see the needle so that might not bug you. The sound is annoying as all get out but it feels more like scratching your skin when you have a mild sunburn.....thats probaby the best way to describe the feeling of getting a tatto on a heavy flesh part like your arm. The more tender spots are obviously more intense but it doesnt last long

It doesn't really hurt too terribly bad......and once it's over the pain is pretty mild....goes away quick, too.

I have matching tattoos on my forearms, left one hurt twice as much as the right one. Inside of my bicept has been the most painful place I've gotten tattooed, so far. I think I may have decided on my next tat and may go talk to my guy this weekend. DAMN THIS THREAD!! more money spent...

Nah, you're not a *****, lol! Some people are just a bit more sensitive, is all. None of mine hurt too horribly, but I have a REALLY high pain-tolerance.

^ you need a new signature with some ss action

My finger tattoo hurt like hell, and when she got to the center of my star tattoo that was pretty unpleasant as well ( funny bone ).

I'm diggin the ship, bummer that his face has the letters across it but the work looks pretty legit. Cant wait to see it done.

As everyones said, cool tattoo - can't wait to see it finished

Out of the three I have, my back hurt the worse. Left forearm didn't really hurt at all, chest hurt a bit over collarbone/sternum (easily tolerable though) but for some reason over my shoulder blades was the worst I've endured so far. Still wasn't anything that I couldn't deal with.

Don't they just look horrible for the first week, lol!!?? My left forearm tattoo, for the first week looked so bad, I was like WTF? Then, like magic, it just....healed up. My right forearm was the same, but WAAAAY worse.

No tats, no piercings, but I have some hella scars from weightlifting, mountain biking, water-skiing, skiing, karate, and stupid "teen" stuff. I figure those all cost me a trip to the emergency room, that's memorable and expensive enough.

The most painful spots I've gotten tattoos done is in my armpit & collar bone. My chest, shoulder & bicep weren't bad at all.

Well its been a month later and I went yesterday to get it finished or at least that was my plan. After seeing how much detail he wanted to put in it I quickly realized I was in need of another visit. I was slightly bummed cause I wanted it done but once I saw how much work he was putting in the piece I was jazzed again to have it done and done and that he was trying to hard to make it right and done right the first time. I just a impatient person thats the only thing but I am excited to have such a nice piece.

My camera doesnt show the details right and we got Nick all lined up to take some great shots when its really done. Yesterday I sat thru the blue, teal, purple, in the water. There is still a light green and white to do so the water isnt done and we didnt even start on the sky and sunset which will be behind the ship to fill it all in.

Camera quality doesnt show the color so I tried several different angles to get it best I could

The areas behind the ship will be all filled in. The sky will start somewhere around the top of the ship mast and go around to the captains hat. Will be a full piece. There are rules here against promoting a business and I'll respect those so if you have questions about my artist or his shop simply handle in PM and I'll get you everything you need. He is just across the IL state line in Winthrop Harbor

p.s. if you see what I see, he missed a sail in coloring but we will get that next time.

Well went back today and its all done everyone. I know some of the images are almost identical but I was trying to get all the colors in it and I am sooooo stoked with the results it isnt even funny!!

:thumbsup:banana1::thumbsup:banana1::thumbsup

If it looks like bruising its not. There are pinks and purples in there to create a cloudy sunset look. SHould be awesome when all healed up!

kinda your call. They can quote it out as hours and pay one rate or pay as each visit comes so its not so much of a bite in the butt.
