i've got a few shots that i've taken that i think are pretty bada$$... if i were to post them up or send them to someone, could that person(or people) play with in in photoshop and show me how it could be better?

i think i have a pretty good artistic eye to get some odd(but cool) angles and/or subjects, but i think my knowledge of making said shots better is holding me back from really being creative...

any takers?

Jason and I spent alot of time cleaning up Joe's Mustang, and my car, and Scott was there capturing the moment, and was taking alot of pictures. I don't just want to have fond memories of the wedding, I'd like them captured of some of the final minute stuff that happened before we rolled out the show.

Joe is one of my best friends, I honestly hope you don't mind my request, as there were many many pictures of my car next to his.

Unfortunately I wasnt the photographer at this shoot, I just took some misc ones on the side. However, the photographer that did do the shoot took every single picture out of focus, pretty unbelievable. and i am not talking like a little out of focus, I mean completely out of focus.

yeah that house had 8,000 feet of wood floor and it was a 13,000 sqft home.. there was alot of custom labor there.. one of are best jobs to date

It's going well, Scott. Thanks for asking. Given the light conditions in that building, I'm very happy with what I got, especially since those 3 up there were all shot at ISO1600 with the 50D.

I'm enjoying learning Lightroom and have been mainly just experimenting. Getting a hold of ~600 presets to mess with has been fun too.

Say while I have your eye.. here is a "before" of one of the shots above. Does what I did with the "after" appear to be decent use of post? Would you have done otherwise?

I tried adding some blacks to make the dog and the obstacle "pop"... In hindsight, maybe I went too much?

I think it looks good. The unfortunate pieces are the fact the dog has a black back and the floor is a bit dark behind him but not much you can do there. You could try the "Recovery" feature to pull back the brightness of the jump stand that is a little blown out but thats a tough shot to meter for, so many darks and whites.

Thanks! It's so fun to mess around. I bought a book on Lightroom but the cold hard truth is that the way I've been able to lean the best is to grab a slider and crank it drastically, making a mental note of what effect it had... :D

Did you ever watch them jump off that. I have gone every year since i was 3. My parents cabin is on the Menomonee River in Iron Mountain. Thats was at one time the largest scaffold ski jump in the world, I think it still might be too. Seen a couple guys die off that jump.

Pics look awesome Nick. Did you try bringing your big lights outside in the wind though, those things are like parachutes in the wind. Love the washed feel that goes well with vintage vehicles :thumbsup

No big lights here. I use external flashes with pocketwizards.
I ended up not even using the lights with those shots. PITA with the wind. WAY too much.

Took these shots today. The sun was too intense, but I made the best of it I think. I was pleased. The girls were really tense and afraid of the camera. It was a chore to get them to relax and was difficult to keep my head in the game. Luckily my friend helped out in that respect.
