I know i can't spell but any how i'm looking for someone that can work metal or know where i could get a 12mm axle. I need two axles for me and a buddies pit bikes. A bolt would be more preferable but i'm finding it hard to find a 12mm bolt 10 in. long. can anyone make anything? or am i stuck? let me know.

You just need a 12mm x 254mm solid steel shaft?

I looked at our hardware supplier, the longest 12mm bolt I can find is 220mm and you need 254mm.
Ill look around at what we have laying around in the scrap at work today, mabey we have some junk stock i can turn down.

I WOULD SUGGEST, REAMING THE WHEEL SPINDLE AND FORK HOLES TO 1/2" DIA. PENDING ENOUGH MATERIAL. BUT 12MM IS .472" THATS ONLY .014" PER SIDE. WHICH I WOULD BELIEVE THAT WHEEL AND FORK WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF MATERIAL AROUND THOSE AREA'S. THAT WOULD ALLOW MORE AND BETTER CHOICES FOR THE AXLE'S

SORRY FOR THE CAPS. AT WORK.

Im going to have to agree that this is the best idea. Alot easier to find 1/2" stock then metric..

Press the bearings out, get new bearings with the old bearing OD and the new bearing 1/2dia. ID. press the new ones in and done.

Purchase a stick of threaded rod (M12x1.5) and cut to size.

As for bearings, I use Bearings, Inc. over in Germantown on the intersection of County Line road and Pilgrim Rd.

If you want the list of all the M12 threaded rod they carry, including materials and thread pitch, here you go.

You would at least have the ability to make three "axles" per rod length that they sell.

If you need to sleeve it, then purchase 1/2" tube and sleeve the threaded rod.

I think it took me all of 1 minute to find this stuff....

Except hes looking for a solid shaft with threaded ends. So that the bearings have more material that the 3-5 threads to ride on. Those would for sure wear out quickly, compared to the solid shaft with threaded ends that he is looking for.

Yeah, I edited it to include the sleeving idea while you were typing yours....

I do agree with the wear potential, hence the sleeving.

Just an idea.

they also have solid rod there i shall compare prices ;) thanks guys i guess i can thread the ends at work but a smoot surface would be preferred

Yeah, threading the ends yourself would be the best solution. Also, go with M12x1.5 pitch as it will be much easier to get quality nuts to thread on. M12x1.25 can be a bitch to find.

Speedy Metals can hook you guys up. I found 12mm rod on their site. I have bought plenty from them in the past. They will cut it to length and even machine it at a reasonable prices. I think we buy from the New Berlin store.
