I have a Class III FFL. The Tax Stamps arnt the problem, its the cost of the automatic weapons that are. In most cases you wont even touch a auto M16 lower for under 10K. If your going to purchase a M16/M4 (auto) directly from the builder, be prepared to spend atleast 15K.

There isnt much of a difference. Im in the process of applying for my manufacturers permit. That way I can modify standard lowers into auto lowers instead of having to buy them for insane prices.

Id hope not, if your financing guns you have problems!!! It was a joke as owning autos is VERY expensive. A family friend of mine owns LMT, the deals I got on my M4's were phenominal, they would easily go for 20K each on gunbroker.com any day of the week. As far as "supressor here we come" You realize there is alot more to it then just ordering it right? You have to get local law enforcement to sign off on the proper BATFE form before you can receive that item. The item also has to be in complete control of the registered owner at all times. Breaking the rules of owning stuff like that is a very quick way to find yourself a one way ticket to prison.

After converting my first AR to full auto at home, my wife
wisely convinced me to sell it (unmarked so it was illegal
in more than one way). Full auto is useless except to show
your friends, cant see crap as it cycles, I could'nt hit a rabbit

Nope nothing on a threaded barrel ,but unless your going to get licensed to make or sell post 86's, your stuck with 86 and earlier for fully transferables and that's where it gets expensive Finite supply = big $$$. 3-4K will get you something like a Mac10 14-15K will get. An 01 isn't going to be enough, you need a class 3 dealer to transfer it to you.

§ 479.105 Transfer and possession
of machine guns.
(a) General. As provided by 26
U.S.C. 5812 and 26 U.S.C. 5822, an
application to make or transfer a
firearm shall be denied if the making,
transfer, receipt, or possession
of the firearm would place the maker
or transferee in violation of law.
Section 922(o), Title 18, U.S.C.,
makes it unlawful for any person to
transfer or possess a machine gun,
except a transfer to or by, or possession
by or under the authority of,
the United States or any department
or agency thereof or a State, or a
department, agency, or political
subdivision thereof; or any lawful
transfer or lawful possession of a
machine gun that was lawfully possessed
before May 19, 1986. Therefore,
notwithstanding any other
provision of this part, no application
to make, transfer, or import a machine
gun will be approved except
as provided by this section.
(b) Machine guns lawfully

(e) The making of machine
guns on or after May 19, 1986.
Subject to compliance with the provisions
of this part, applications to
make and register machine guns on
or after May 19, 1986, for the benefit
of a Federal, State or local governmental
entity (e.g., an invention for
possible future use of a governmental
entity or the making of a weapon
in connection with research and
development on behalf of such an
entity) will be approved if it is established
by specific information that
the machine gun is particularly suitable
for use by Federal, State or
local governmental entities and that
the making of the weapon is at the
request and on behalf of such an

HK USP Tactical and the HK Mark 23 SOCOM both come with threaded barrels from the factory, so the barrels themselves aren't an issue, just what you screw on the end of it...

Those of us that aren't dealers or manufacturers can't own anything made or converted after May 19th, 1986, hence the ridiculous prices. I sold my American 180 and MAC 11-9mm about 7 years ago for about triple what I paid for them, and I wish I had them to sell all over again, as the price has doubled again.

Threaded barrels are A-OK.

An 01 FFL is not to be confused with an SOT or a "Special Occupation Taxpayer"; or...

The classes of SOT holders:
Class
1 - importer of NFA firearms
2 - manufacturer of NFA firearms
3 - dealer in NFA firearms

If one plans
to engage in business in NFA weapons, one needs to be a SOT, just
as one needs the FFL if they plan to engage in the business of
dealing, making, or importing regular firearms.
