View Full Version : Very undecided........

There's been a few threads like this lately......now I have one too.....This summer I'm painting my '89 Camaro. I can't seem to decide one way or another what color. At first I was just going to repaint the ground effects, but upon closer inspection, the car's paint is getting pretty rough all over, definately needs a repaint. I am just not sure what color to go with. Her interior is dark red/black......VERY good condition, so I will not be changing that, so whatever color needs to be compatible with that interior. I'm torn between shiny black, BRIGHT red, or ????.......Anyone have any ideas/suggestions??

What color is it now? Or what was the Original color if its been changed?

Right now, she's bright red, with a black hood. I love the lighter body, black hood combination.......I would really like to have some kind of unique, not-stock appearance in the end.

Well unless you are a body man, or know a really good one, black will look terrible. Remember that the darker the color, the more noticable the imperfections in the body / bodywork will be. Black is the absolute worst unless you have a perfectly straight car.

Yes, but when its on a clean straight car it is pure sex. No doubt

I'm quite good with bodywork, so getting the car perfectly straight will be ok, and (thankfully) the car's body is almost unflawed as is. My other Camaro is semi-flat black, and it took me a lot of work, but she's pin-straight, and looks damn fine, lol......

... but on an imperfect car it looks like garbage.

I agree black is a nice color, but it's a PITA. Keeping it perfectly clean, perfectly straight (door dings?) and... well, just perfect. That's why when I do my bodywork I'm going red.

Yeah, thats pretty much true. You will see every mark, dent, and wave in the body if you paint it black. If its done right it would look awesome but plan on spending some bucks with a good bodyman and use little to no bondo if possible.

I'm not a Bondo fan, lol.......my rule for Bondo is, if the damage is bigger than a silver dollar, it's too big for Bondo to take care of. We would cut/weld serious damage, which, fortunately the car doesn't have. We do all our own bodywork, so getting the car real nice wouldn't be that costly, it's just a time-consuming pain in the ol' behind....

I'm a very big fan of that shade of electric orange that is almost red, and so bright it almost hurts to look at....but I don't know what it's called as far as car paint goes. I'm sure everyone but me would think it's god-awful.....but I love it!!

FWIW, Sunny does not live in a trailer, she lives in an APT that is very nicely decorated. Whatever it is that you THINK you know about her, forget it, because it's not right. She's one of the most complex people I have ever met. I have known her for years, and just scratched the surface. Yeah, she has her perculiarities, but don't we all? I can tell you this, she's one of the few people on this board that I know would have my back, regardless of the situation. Quiet simply, she's good people.

Color keyed wheels FTW.

Nothing is like a black paint job if the car is straight, its in its own category. Black with red rallye stripes to match the interior maybe? Not sure silver would look good with a red gut, a dark silver like pewter might work though.....IMO the best options are black or red.

Yeah, I remember you telling me about that, and how awesome that sounded, but I don't want to "rip off" your idea in case you ever want to paint a car like that......It was your idea, I don't want to steal it, lol.....I have never dealt with a shiny black car, and I have been hearing they get dirty real easy.....semi-flat black looks kinda dusty all the time, so you just don't notice. My '79 seems to enjoy being dirty, lol. Now you guys have given me so many cool ideas, I'm really enjoying thinking of all the possibilities, and color combinations!!! :thumbsup

Being a hardcore thirdgen person here are my recommendations:
Dark burghundy or a kandy red would be awesome
My car is impulse blue metallic and i am in love with it
I wanted my car to be a black base, gold base heritage stripes, and a kandy red over it all making it like a blackcherry with kandy red stripes but $$$
Otherwise I'm in love with the 91-92 teal metallic, it changes colors bigtime in diff. lighting

Also look into a two tone, black/orange looks awesome, red/black, blue black, silver/orange, etc.
