Unreal.

This is a 4 rotor producing 590hp...I don't know the times it runs, but as you can tell, it gets up and goes.

IMO, I am not a big fan of the idle sounds....but if you like watching the Indy cars at the mile then you'll love it as I do:

4Rotor RX-7 (http://goku.unixpimps.net/~brandon/4rotorfd.MPG) yes...some may have seen it before, oh well.

Now is Mr. Wankel the guy that invented the Rotary and than sold it to mazda? If im not mistaken , he couldnt get it to be perfect but he got it to work than became a fine tuner for mazda. Is this correct info?

Mazda put Wankels in the Cosmo, RX2, Rx3, REPU-rotary engine pick-up, RX4, RX5- also known as Cosmo, RX7, and now RX8. They skipped "RX6" because it was hard to pronounce in Japanese.

IMHO, wankels are great when they are in good shape, but they can become a pile of scrap very fast. They are not as rebuildable as a common engine without replacing expensive parts. Some parts can be remachined by specialized shops, but most often they are beyond repair.

In the 70's Mazda cars, the Wankel had a ton of emissions controls. An air pump, vacuum solenoids, and relays cluttered the otherwise simple engines. They also had an exhaust chamber to burn excess fuel. The carburetors were overjetted to keep this "thermal reactor" lit. Fuel injection solved most of the emissions problems.

They also had oil injection like a two cycle engine. The problem was that they used motor oil from the engine and injected it into the carb. Adding oil to the engine when filling the gas tank was common. For racing, this system could be disconnected and a better quality two cycle oil could be premixed with the gasoline.

I have owned a few Wankels over the years, a 74 RX4, 78 Cosmo, 70 Arctic Cat Panther sled, and a Arctic Cat "Grass Cat" lawnmower. Add to that the many books, magazines, model cars, and model engines.

Can you say, "Wankel Nerd"?

I know they scream loud enough to drill your eardrums at high rpm but I am amazed at how it sounds at idle. I love it!
