I don't really like those style of articles nor Car and Driver much, trying to sound cool by ripping things in the past that were thought highly of at the time...I think I've seen other similar articles done the same way. Some of the cars might of been boring and I suppose they had to fill out a top 10 list but didn't think a few of those cars were that bad, at least as basic transportation.

It just shows you that all the cars in the top 10 were supposedly the best as C+D had to say, now 10 years later they make fun of them.:confused

Glad that marketing check cashed for them:loser.:flipoff2:

Articles like that are great imo...I mean really, Car of the year? Mustang II?!? Citation?!? Town car?!?!?!?

Most of those cars weren't that bad. The Mustang II was closer in concept to the original than the bloat-mobile that preceded it. The Citation, for what it was, was a decent attempt at building economical cars. My Father had one and was quite the reliable car for him. He did religiously do all has own maintenance on it. The Town Car is what it was meant to be, a very smooth riding luxury car, not a sports car or a tight sport sedan. The Vega was also the right car for the times and looked nice, too bad it rusted on the showroom floors. The Alliance was a shitbox, no other way to say it and I feel is what killed AMC. CEO of AMC Mr. Deirdewater from Renault killed the company and did no real work to improve the main AMC platforms. The Merkur today still remains a decent performing car and has a serious following yet.

Well, I think it's really a "to each their own" thing.....some cars I think are total garbage others find irresistable, so articles like that seem to be based largely on opinion as well......

The XR4Ti was a good car for the mid 80's, the only thing bad they have to say is it was ugly and didn't sell because of it.

It doesn't take any skill to do those articles, hence why I think they are lame. Anyone can go back and make fun of things in the past that were thought highly at the time. Its like "wow we we're so stupid, lololol"....not real clever or insightful.

I built a model of a Citation once. Even though it was plastic, it still rusted.

As did I. I couldn't believe they actually made a kit so I had to buy it, I made the X-11 with non-stock front end that came with the kit. I have it somewhere at my parents stashed away.

I always liked the XR4Ti; it had alot of potential when modified.

Sure the car was ugly, but Ford was good at making bad styling in those years. They should have stuffed that motor in the Escort GT, or just produced a US-spec Cosworth Escort using this powerplant in an intercooled setup with AWD.

Oh well, I guess we will just have to stick with Subaru and Audi for getting something right over the years with their engines and drivetrain advancements.

I could only say the same thing about Mitsubishi for the DSM (1989-1999) 2.0L Turbo AWD models (Eclipse/Talon/Laser), Galant VR4, and Evo 1-10. Great engines, but fragile drivetrains due to the AWD.

Personally, I had hoped that Isuzu would have continued production of the Impulse RS AWD Turbo (handling by Lotus), which was only offered from 1987-1991, and had a 160HP 1.6L Turbo-4-banger in a 2700# car. It was intercooled with a very good suspension and a decent drivetrain (Viscous front and rear LSD's with a helical center differential). In stock form, it was quick -- like low 15's, but when you introduced a boost controller, good exhaust, FMIC, and a fuel injector upgrade with a S-AFC, you had a very strong car that had the potential to click into the 12's very easily with just a few good mods. It also had a number of interchangable parts with the Isuzu 1.8L motor, and the Isuzu Rodeo, an easy-to-work-in engine bay, and a strong little 1.6L that could handle decent power on the stock internals. They were rare little cars in the U.S., and you can now get them pretty cheap.

Oh well, the good ole days....

Everything else on the "10-worst" list definitely fits the bill as craptastic vehicles.

Those impulses are pretty slick, there is a red one in town from time to time.
