Seriously - It reminds me of a south park episode, and i'm waiting for them to actually make one about this.

So many stupid asshole musicians singing their crappy ass music. Bono, Springsteen, Bon Jovi (who looks like a woman BTW).

It's just funny to me. I guess when I have the humor of a 5 year old that runs side by side with south park style humor, I laugh at these people.

Agreed, all these private parties are a bit much. The simple cost of supporting all the people who simply want to come watch the inauguration is staggering enough.

I believe alot of this is paid by donators. And they are spending money on the local economy there. Think of all the restuarants, hotels, stores that are kicking ass right now in that area.

Is it a little over the top and ridiculous. Sure. But since it doesn't impede on my life, I just can't care.

Bush's 2005 inauguration was $42 million I believe and that was with not near as many people liking the guy. Alot more people plus alot better feeling about the person coming in equal a much bigger expense.

Last I heard Obama had raised $20 some million to help offset the cost of everything.

Bush's 2005 inauguration was $42 million I believe and that was with not near as many people liking the guy. Which was part of the cost...

Much of the cost skyrocketing was due in part to increased security as it was the first inauguration after 9/11 and due to the huge number of protesters that planned to show up.

fwiw, Bush's campaign raised 42.3 million in private funds toward the inauguration.

The 49 million for Obama's is simply what the federal gov't will spend on the inauguration and local festivities. Another 75 million will be paid by the feds for security concerns to the state of maryland and virginia related to the inauguration.

Total cost is estimated to be 170 million. Source: "What Recession? The $170 Million Inauguration" (http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Inauguration/story?id=6665946&page=1) from ABCnews.com

The cost is excessive, but in my opinion, understandable (people are free to come as they wish...and this will almost certainly be the most attended in history).

Was just going to post that after reading it. They could have brought down the number of events for the people but then you run the risk of losing morale, thats what one person further into the process told me directly.
