What is the reason you are looking for a "classic" deck, out of curiousity?

See if the plug and color of the wires are the same. If the newer radio came from the same type of car, it might just plug in.

Are you positive the wiring is different? Knowing GM many things were kept the same for many years, especially in older vehicles. Either way most should be color coded the same, not sure if that era had plugs for easy removal/install of factory radios like the 80's and 90's.

yes they did have plugs. Remember you could almost get 6 different radio options on any car back then...cassette, 8-track, CB, AM, FM, power antennas, etc.

It might sound kinda weird, but I want to keep all the car's "energy" from her own era. I guess so when I'm driving her, I can forget I'm in 2009, and pretend I'm really in 1980. I feel I was born in the wrong time.

Doubt the option exists for your era, but my father has a modern deck in his '55 Bel Air. It looks like an old school OE deck, but it's totally not, but it looks like it, even a CD changer in the trunk. I think it's made or at least sold by Classic Industries.

Why not look into the "Retro" look new ones that play CD/MP3/Etc.?

Orange w black stripe = 12V
Yellow = Ignition 12V
Grey = Dash Lights
Black = Ground

Speakers can be just about any color, most had one wire going to the speaker, the other speaker wire was just run to chassis ground.

thats what I have. But instead of a cd player i have my ipod plugged into it.

No, not really. I just want the plain AM/FM. I like the radio a lot, many good stations.

I dunno.....I really like a few stations......like 92 AM, all old country, very cool, and 97.3, and 96.5......even 95.7 is cool!
