Just wanted to let all my friends here know that I finally asked her, and her answer was yes. I hired a photographer for the proposal and included a link. Lisa and I have been together for just over 6 years now.

Yup, place is called Sarasota Jungle Gardens. We went there two years ago and had such a fantastic time I couldn't think of a better place to ask.

I think I have had 2 or 3 people say the same thing about Jaws, haha.

Thanks guys :)

Yup, Lisa commented on the photographers gear soon after we got to the park. She was pretty surprised when she learned he was there for her.

Thanks again everyone, will let you all know when the party / wedding is. Looks like it will be spring after next.

That's the same decision Adam and I are making. I can't see spending so much for one day. I'd be up for Vegas or a destination wedding if both sides of the family would agree.

Thats what I was leaning towards to avoi the rediculous expense of feeding 100 people that I don't care for. Her family is huge and don't have the time of day for us, why do we need to invite them? But its her day so I don't have much say in it.

Hahhaa.

Seems as if that just happened to me. I think our total with the honeymoon to Vegas was a tad bit over $5k. That's real good compared to everything else out there.

Meg and I pulled of the ceremony (at a dog park) w/ pastor, flowers, decorations, reception hall (on a lake), dinner feeding 80 w/ three helper/servers (helped set-up/take down), open bar w/ top shelf mixed drinks/beer/etc, cake, desert bar, DJ, dress, all for a touch under 5G. Fortunately both the bartenders and the photographer (thanks andy!) were free which helped keep it from going over 6.

We're going to have a small "wedding party". It's the best part of a poor economy, you can get away with a lot as pretentious doesn't pay. Not going to have a giant wedding, going to do it at dajusticeopeace. ~100 people at $28/plate with open bar for six hours of retardedness. We only invited direct family through cousins and up the bloodline. It'll be relatively cheap and hopefully people won't try to give us any money or gifts in this economy. We don't need any "house" crap and out of all of our relatives we probably need the money the least except a couple.

I suggest saving the "giant wedding extravaganza" for the future. Renew your vows or whatever. No sense in economic hardship for a three ring circus that isn't really about you anyway.

We have just under two months to find a house and close on it in order for my other half to be able to take advantage of the $8k free money homebuyer credit crap. I'm not eligible and once we're married she won't be eligible. It's funny though, the only houses that are selling are the ones that are going for 20% off original listing price. If you look at Trulia it paints a pretty picture.

It worked for me. Maybe it was just having a "moment".... they're really nice.

And Pork... no shame in waiting or going small. We did a very small wedding and it still cost a bundle. We too considered going away until everyone said they'd follow us... kinda defeated the purpose. Good luck whichever route you choose!

Buy the house, screw the bid event. You can always go the party in a church hall and have some "relies" cook up the grub or do potluck. I seen a lot of weddings done like that when I was a member of my church in California.

I don't mind spending 5 grand, but I havent been able to come up with a number less then 3500 for JUST dinner. If dont invite ANY friends just family, the number is 92. And I am not inviting a few of my cousins.

I do appreciate the tips / advice you guys have to offer, it helps a ton and we still don't know what we want to do yet. Neither of us are real fancy people, so a fancy wedding isn't on our wish list to begin with.

Go to Boston Market...we did. Great dinner, inexpensive prices. I think we payed ~ 21/plate, they brought servers, formal dinnerware and napkins, gave you numerous options for entrees and side dishes-we went with chicken 1/4's (to die for) and turkey slices, mashed potatoes, spinach casserole, vegetable medley, on and on and on. They set-up (including setting up the table ware), take down. VERY well done.

All under 1700 total for the 80 we fed.

BUT, you could go lower too depending on options...
