Well we finally got our new PC with Windows Vista and I think it's outstanding after using it for almost two days now. It seemed like there was a LOT of negative feedback when it came out, what exactly is/was the problem with it...???

Just curious.....:thumbsup

Im having problems with my Vista.

Some sites it kicks me offline, then I have to reconnect, and it never connects fully, so I cancel and get a partial page. So I can view posts and such, but I have to go over whole process again.

Anything I can change on my settings?? Please help!

Not a vista problem. Crappy TWC problem. I get that once in a great while with charter. Knock on my wood.

Vista has some serious issues. Don't expect all "plug and play" hardware to work. Don't expect all software to work. Do expect it to be a huge PITA to modify anything (ie: replace a driver, ect).

If your PC stays how it came out of the box, you'll be fine. Wait till you want to install a game. The game wont work, the controller wont work. You cant upgrade the video card, because it doesen't work with vista. Vista however, is getting better, as more stuff is working with it. So, I guess in the long run it's ok for home use.

Do you want to block or allow? Block or allow?....

the biggest problem with vista is that people are unwilling to learn how to use it. The only problem I've had is getting the gcc compiler to work with win-avr, but with the latest release of winavr it works fine.

The friend that just built mine (who's blood type is PC - aka VERY knowledgeable) said that's the biggest issue with it. Now he did also say that there are some compatibility issues but nothing that can't be figured out.....

A lot of the complainers were those who had old versions of a lot of programs, like Nero 7, microsoft office 03 ect.......microsoft didnt make it backwards compadible with those older games, or the manufacturers just wanted you to buy the latest version, so they didnt create the updated drivers for vista to make those programs work

My next jump will be to Windows 7, which by all appearances is what Vista should have been to start with.

I played with vista for a year off and on and I just dont like it that well. I bought a new laptop but was hell bent on not using vista.

I bought an Apple MacBook Pro. I did partition the HDD so I can use XP PRO. Apple also has whats called VM ware Fusion which allows me to run XP in Mac OS. I can share files back and forth.

I'll never go back to a PC

BlackLightning

I am not sure why but vista does not cooperate with .flv files(youtube videos). It happens with some but not others where you download the file and windows explorer instantly and repeatedly crashes. It's fun trying to remember DOS commands to try to delete the file so the pc will even load the desktop. :fire

1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.

2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" . Click on that line.

3. Press the Launch button.

4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.

5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

You can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

you are sure about that? 2 gig........not true at all...My laptop is one gig right now, plan on upgrading it to two, however for right now, it has more than enough memory to run vista, watch porn, be on here, burn a cd and download some songs......at the same time with slowing down the computer too bad.....my desktop is 3 gig and it is really fast, however I like the laptop better.

Vista is such a great operating system that they decided to come out with a new version of Windows in a hurry..and 90% of the Vista team magically vanished from employment at Microsoft.

badass88gt
01-07-2009, 09:57 PM
I dont think it is. I'm sure the computer geeks will give us all the insight and tell us why, but for myself, being just a "casual" user with both OS's on 2 computers, I like XP better.

The extra features offered in Vista easliy make it better than XP, and that is what I am liking most about it.....

TheRxForSpeeed
01-07-2009, 11:12 PM
What extra features are on Vista that make it better than XP? In all honesty any screen I go to if given the option to display it how XP was I do that.

I just recently built a desktop for gaming: amd quad core, 4 gig ram, nvidia 9800gx2 1gig, etc. I am running Vista Ultimate 64bit which was the biggest mistake ever. Games crash on a regular basis by Windows. Even updating all the drivers from the game side to hardware side does not help the situation it will still crash at least once a day.

If only I would have been smart to get xp 64bit or better yet just used my macbookpro since most of the newer games are mac compatible now.

Well honestly, the biggest benifit of vista that that average computer user (like my self, 90%of the computer is for internet use) will ever use is the security settings that is built in...you dont need anything extra other than the basic antivirus/spyware program....other than that the look and feel is the same.

Vista is the modern day Windows Me, a Microsoft stop gap.

Wait for Windows 7, it will take all the better features of Vista, fix most of the bad crap and make it usable. Kind of like XP did when making the jump from '98 to XP.
