I'm Looking at an 2001 ford Expedition it is an Eddie Bauer edition it is in pretty good shape all the bells and whistle down to the entertainment system. It has 63000 miles on it pretty nice truck al the way around. The only thing I have a concern with is it has an air suspension. I getting it for 10,000 what do you guys think, is this a fair deal?

Seems like an ok deal as long as its in really good shape. Kelly blue book claims $11,420 for retail from a dealer. Somewhere around 9500 Private party.

Well, After looking at BossLX's links I retract my earlier post. Obviously if you can get a 2004 Eddie Bauer with 62K for 10k then a 2001 with 60K for the same 10K is probably not the best idea. Evidently, Kelly blue book is no longer a very trustworthy source for SUV prices these days.

I don't know a lot about the air ride suspension ( I never even knew Expeds had it ) but , my friend a couple houses down has a Exped and he is having problems with the air ride not working.....His truck is sagging real bad in back and he says the compressor does not kick on at all....I don't know if he had it looked at or not yet but, I heard the air ride on the Navi's can be real expensive to fix , not sure if the Exped's use the same system though....Maybe a newer one like Boss listed that does not have air ride might be a better choice??

Like I told you on the phone Dave, I would steer clear of the air ride. I don't think you will be happy with it when you have the car trailer out back. Not to mention avoiding future repair costs.

The adds I posted are from just a quick search. I would be kind of leery of some of the Illinois adds. The closer you get to Chicago, the more beat up they seem to get.

I really like the white 2006. The 3v 5.4's are nice!

You can get a newer Yukon Denali for less than that. And an Eddie Bauer is like comparing a Corolla to a Maxima when you compare it to a Denali. Plus it has a real frame and gets better fuel economy. Oh, and the firstgen Expeditions are ugly and slow.

Fine vehicle if it came with an LS1, otherwise another gas
guzzeling ford that ejects spark plugs or if they stay in
only parts of them come out during general maintanance
and then you may not be able to save the head anyway.

Gas will go back up this summer, with unemployment near
an all time peak this coming summer your gonna be able
to buy that fuel pig for 1/2 the cost in August.

I had the sparkplug issue on my 2001 5.4 4x4 SuperCrew. Had I changed the 100kmile sparkplugs at 100K instead of letting it go and having the one blow out at 102K would've been no problem:rolf
Don't need the $3k new head change, just a timesert kit that was like $350 new and I sold it on ebay for around $250 so it cost me about $100 to fix and they are better than just a helicoil.
The trick is not to wait for 100K to change plugs, change them around 40k and they seems to be little if any problems. I had not problems getting the other 7 out. Still have the truck like 35,-40K later and still like it a lot. Haven't had any other problems.Soon as it gets warmer I'll be changing plugs again, no biggie. My truck gets 17 highway(20 when I went to Ohio) and around 12-14 all city so it's not terrible for a fullsize truck. If you want gas mileage buy a camry:goof

I talked to the dealer about the air ride problem it was having and they found a leak in the rear some where are problems with the compressor. They are supposedly repairing both at the cost of around $500. It is supposed to be done Sat. I told the sales guy if I was at all uneasy with it I wasn't going to get it. Plan B is to get a 2002 super cab for the same money with similar miles and condition no bells and whistles.

I took the advice that you guys gave me and passed on buying the Expedition. The used car manager at the place that I put the deposit down on the truck wasn't very happy :fire:fire, but such is life. I know this should probably go in the classified section but if anybody knows where I can get a nice 4x4 with pretty low mileage for less then $10,000 let me know.

Thanks again, Swags63

If you dont have to have a full size SUV get a Grand Cherokee, the 4.0 is indestructable and the V8's are very solid as well.
