Muscle Car Review did a feature in which they reviewed the 10 quickest cars as tested by "Hot Rod" Magazine back in the muscle car era. The players might surprise some...

As with any review, some cars were DQ'd because a) They were KNOWN ringers and b) They didn't fit the guideline established by MCR in that they could have normal modifications that people typically did (Tires, swap gears, intake, or carbs, in at least one case, a cam), and the car wasn't an ongoing project (this dq'd a buick for example...and a Hemi Coronet convertible too).

Keep in mind that these weren't the FASTEST tested by all magazines...just Hot Rod. Several Mags consistently got better, quicker times than did HR. Also, cars like Hemi Darts, Ford thunderbolts were left out.

Cue the Fanfare....because here it is:

1. 63 Plymouth Bevedere 426 stage I Wedge: 12.69 @ 111.97
mods: 4.56 gears and "cheater slicks". Stock exhaust featured caps that were taken off. Otherwise stock 11.5:1 Max Wedge engine...the stage III would have featured the 13.5:1 compression engine.

2. 69 Buick GS 400: 12.77 @ 110.02
mods: Slicks, 4.78 gears, open headers, camshaft.

3. 69 Chevy Camaro Z/28: 13.11 @ 106.76
mods: Open headers, 9" slicks, 4.88 gears.

4. 69 Plymouth Barracuda 340: 13.33 @ 106.5
mods: Eddlebrock "high rise" intake, holley carb, headers.

5. 69 Dodge Super Bee 440 6-pack: 13.37 @ 106.00
mods: slicks.

6. 1970 Chevy Chevelle 454: 13.44 @ 108.17
mods: Nothing. Even stock tires were used.

7. 69 Dodge Charger 500 426 Hemi: 13.48 @ 109.00 mph
mods: none. Side note, they also tested another charger with auto 3.23 gears at the same time and got 13.80 @ 105.01.

8. 69 Chevy Corvette Stingray Convertible L88 427: 13.56 @ 111.10
mods: None. Bagged on the fact that it was a 3.36 geared with auto.

9. 68 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 428 SCJ: 13.56 @ 106.64
mods: slicks.

10. 68 Pontiac Firebird Ram-Air 400: 13.62 @ 106.38
mods: They said slicks, a little carb tuning, and bending a little throttle shaft to allow full opening of the secondaries (all ram-air's had this limitation...common mod).
