My uncle got a new card for xmas but his PSU doesn't have a PCI-E 6pin connector. I know there's 2x 4pin to 6pin PCI-E adaptor things out there. Does anyone have one that I could have/buy? Could meet somewhere tonight.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the PSU is going to be able to handle that card? What card is it and how many watts is the PSU that is being used?

Better check your spec's on your PSU. You might be better off picking up a new power supply.

The PSU will be fine. It's a 800W PSU and it's only a 9600GT.

I have no fuggin idea why there isn't a PCI-E 6pin on it, it is older tho.

That should be fine. My 600W Thermaltake didn't have a PCI-E 6-pin either... but it was older too. However, it wasn't handling the 2900HD I bought... computer would shut off right in the middle of intense action. VERY annoying.

made the mistake of buying ATI

There's nothing wrong with ATI... I've had both ATI and nVidia cards. My next one might be nVidia... but my ATI's have been rock solid. My last nVidia card exploded... literally.

Scared the hell out of me when it happened. I was playing Star Wars Galaxies... and BANG!

Amazingly, when the first capacitor blew the system kept going. Just scared me, and I went "what the hell was that!" Then the second went a couple minutes later (which was louder, if you can believe that), then everything went black. :D As soon as the second one went I could smell that acidic smell that goes with blown capacitors (believe me, I've seen more than a few blown up in the various electronics classes I took in school). So I pulled the card and voilla... 2 blown caps and a couple of blown transistors. The one transistor to the right of the bottom capacitor was probably some sort of voltage regulator and my guess is that went first.

You'll notice that on the unexploded capacitors that they are actually scored on the tops. That is of course to keep the capacitors from turning into grenades, should they blow up (which obviously happens from time to time). So if you're using some piece of electronic equipment and you hear what sounds like a gunshot... a capacitor probably just blew up.
