GPS question

Just picked up a Garmin GPS and the thing wont turn on. I have tried to turn it on plugged into 2 different cars. Do these things need to fully charge before they will even turn on or will they turn on right away as long as theyre plugged in?

there is an on off switch on the top right corner.....

When I got my Garmin, I let it charge for a bit by just plugging it into a laptop since I had the same type of power cord/connection. Let it sit for maybe 15 minutes and I could turn it on and change some settings, but the battery would die shortly after. Then I let it charge over night and I was good to go.

Should turn on upon plugging it in.
That is what mine does and my power switch is on the top left.

mine is on the top right and turned on right out of the box but only lasted about 5 min till i charged it
