Well in anticipation of things to come i decided to consolidate my fleet and attain something more practical for everday use.

So essentially i sent the S10 packin' and kept the monte and the camaro.

Went out and picked up this 2008 Trailblazer SS AWD in Red Jewel tintcoat to replace it. With the deals GM is pushing to get rid of 08's i essentially got this thing for the price of a used one and its brand new.

Obviously too cold to clean it and or start doing visual enhancements just yet. All i have done thus far is the HID's. The tune is stock right now as a quick scan revealed the dealer filled it with 87 octane and knocks to beat the band. Only mods will be a 160 t-stat and my tune... for now.

Sorry for poop pics.

The old lady will be driving it mostly, she's pressing for "HER LS2" plates lol

The HID's i had in the S10 and just so happened these trucks use 9006 bulbs too. I had to do a minor mod with a capacitor so that the HID's didnt strobe during certain like approach lighting or DRL operation, the lights only run at 70% then and plays hell with the balasts.

They can tell if its been flashed with something other than a NON-GM tune on gasser's too, but they really have to be intent on trying to find something wrong, reading the procedure for it makes it sound likes its a royal PITA to do even with a tech II and requires digital pics of the tech II screen and phone calls to determine lol. Not sure if HPT is diff than hand helds as to what kinda foot print is left behind, there are stealth tunes out there too that leave no trace of tampering... Just the risk you take. besides the driveline i can fix, all the convience items that are electronic i can't and that warranty is preserved.

But yes there is a "lil' bad ls1 en route". Simpson car seat... check!

FWIW a AWD SS with headers + catback, CAI, tune, and LS1 e-fan swap should run low low 13's. Throw a stall in it and you will find yourself nicely into the 12's. The 2wd SS's are usually at least a tenth faster E/T

Not if they dig into the ECM it wont be. Tracks the last 10 cvn numbers, if the warrany rep looks that deep, its over. Only alternative is to buy a second ECM. But with the diesels that doesnt even work because of other data stored in the ECM that wont match up with milage such as regeneration cycles. But if for some reason you can guarantee this, let me know. Cause I have a extended warranty as well. If there is any truth to this I want it in writing, then when I bring my truck in with the transmission blown the fuck up I can get fixed with no questions asked. The fact that GM lojacked the ECMS is the only reason my truck is still stock.

No brawl intended. I just want the facts. A friend of mine is a service writer and another friend of mine is a diesel tech at Hall chevy. They both told me that if I touch that factory computer and have some sort of major screw up, its my ass. GM got sick and tired of warranty claims due to other peoples bullshit. Especially with the oil burners because of how much power you can pick up with a simple tune. But if the aftermarket warranty gets around people looking into the warranty claims, I want to know.... Cause if thats the case, the go fast parts are getting ordered.

BAD LS1
12-18-2008, 10:19 AM
Yeah the diesel boys are under the microscope more because its so easy to mod them and shit the allison out on the flip side. Lots more warranty $$$$ there as opposed to a $2000 bill to replace a tranny in a gasser.

nitrous
12-18-2008, 11:35 PM
If you're modded and blow your tranny you're better off getting a built ALLY.

Nice truck. I was seriously looking at getting one this past summer, but held off.

same with the SS. trans is the big weak point on their drivetrains

nitrous
12-19-2008, 12:54 AM
Yea pretty much the same with most cars.

I guess what I really meant to say is that the Ally can take a lot in stock form, but if you're modded and are going to have to shell out for a new tranny, you'll pay the same for a good aftermarket one as a new one from Allison

88Nightmare
12-19-2008, 01:00 AM
how much can one expect to pay for a built duramax trans?

I know a built trans for the SS, especially if its an AWD can run $3,000 or more for a good one.

nitrous
12-19-2008, 05:54 AM
A replacement Allison costs well over $3k. Aftermarket units can run anywhere from between $2500 to $8000+ depending on if you add Co-Pilot and the little gizmos and who builds it.

Ive talked to quite a few places about these things and ALOT of guys that have built aftermarket ones. Rule #1, stay away from ATS, there transmissions are over priced and there junk IMO, ive seen nothing but problems with them. If you have a good understanding of the things your best bet is to just get a kit from suncoast and do it yourself, there kits seem to be strong as hell. If you want to pay to have it done with all the bells and whistles from a local place like ATD or Kilpatrics your looking in the mid 4K range. I know brad (underpsi) has a built trans, he would be best to ask this question to.

The allisons can take an unamagineable beating behind a stock engine but once you get 90+hp over stock your gonna start tossing it into limp mode all the time and its eventually gonna give up. A friend of mine destroyed his allison on a 2 week old truck in less then 200 miles with just a PPE handheld tuner, intake, and exhaust system... But this combination also put down over 470rwhp on the dyno... Its really amazing what these bitches will do.

i know that there are some aftermarket warrenties that wil cover you if your vehicle is modded, as long as it is done by an accredited shop or done by the dealership....I have it on my mustang......Only thing it dosnt cover is if I spray the piss out of my car. I will have to look at all my paper work to see what company it is through.....this is just another reason why I am not going to do much of the work to my car my self.

None of the warranties you guys offer cover damage due to non oem parts. I already had my wife look into it, hell they dont even like it when you put a plow on your truck... But you can buy coverage for that.

You didnt but I was assuming as you work there.. Anyways, free tires for life???? Id just burn them up for fun once a week if thats the case.. Was the warranty through the dealer itself or a aftermarket warranty through a different company? If it was an aftermarket warranty, who is it through?

It is through the dealer its self....I will have to check the paper work to be sure though....unfortunatly that is in the glove box of the car and I took my temp winter vehicle to work today.

As far as the tires go, there are some rules with that, like they need to be rotated every 6k and they cant have any signs of abuse.....It wont do me much good soon though, when I get the wider rear rims and tires....I got my 900 worth of tires out of them already, so I am good.
