View Full Version : Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, How do YOU stay WARM...???

Car Guy

It's time for me to get some new winter weather wear but I am clueless when it comes down to what really works. I have been just piling on the layers to stay warm but if there's one thing I HATE its feeling like the kid from Christmas Story. In a nutshell I'm looking to stay as warm as I can while wearing the least amount of clothing including everything from head to toe......

Any input is much appreciated...!!! :banana1:

I like the long underwear offered at cabella's...their "artic" level stuff isn't terribly thick, but does a phenomenal job keeping you warm and dry. Seriously, you go there and buy that stuff, then go upstairs to the footwear section and buy their warmest socks, then over and buy a pair of 300 gram gloves (typical is ~40-80), and you WILL be warm.

This morning I took the dogs out for a 4 mile walk wearing a long underwear top, t-shirt, hoody with the hood up, wind pants, their warmest socks, and a small cap and and said gloves, and I was fine...only prob was the wind blowing on the face, so the nose was cold.

Three most important areas to keep from feeling too cold is feet, hands, and head though...focus on that and you shouldn't be too bad.

Remmington fleece long underwear (top and bottom), 2 layers of socks, tshirt under the long underwear, a hoodie, then my work shirt on top of that, then my flannel lined carhartt pants, and my carhartt jacket with a knit hat and a hard hat to top it off.

I tend to stay out of the cold by working indoors and staying at home. I hate winter, snow and everything else in this crummy state, and somehow I can never leave I think the eagles sang a song about it. Hotel Wisconsin

I like to imagine that global warming is real and someday we'll have 2 months of winter instead of 4... but until then I like my Smart Wool socks... they're breathable and they keep your feet nice and toasty warm. If you keep your feet warm sometimes that tricks your brain into thinking that the rest of you is warmer too.

This morning I took the dogs out for a 4 mile walk wearing a long underwear top,

Did you seriously say "top"? Anyway, anything fleece works good. I got a cheap coat at Mitchell Street Men's Store and paid $39 for it. Fleece inside and Nylon outer. Staticy, but I've not been cold yet this winter. Pretty light weight too.

how you deal with the cold is all mental. A jacket is the most you'll ever see me wear(exept when snowmobiling).

I'm naturally warm-blooded and I have plenty of insulation. Even when it's like it is right now I have to be careful to keep my feet from sweating in tennis shoes. If you can keep your head warm, the rest is a lot easier. If your head gets cold it's a lot more difficult to stay warm.

I'm one of those odd people that once their back gets cold I'm done. My Grandpa was the same way, fine until his back got cold. I don't know what it is about my back.
