Does anybody on here know the answer to this question:

I had a small surgery yesterday, and am off work until Friday...am I able to make a claim through my short-term disability to make up for the 3 days of work I am missing, or would I have to be "disabled" for longer than that for it to be used?

Sorry, I know very little about insurance BS other than paying for it is a PITA!

I am pretty sure you can claim short term disability. Its only like 30% of your normal earnings if I remember correctly. A girl at work just went through this, was off for 3 weeks and she hasn't received a check yet.

When I looked into it, I would have received 66% of my income.

usually they don't pay out for that short of time off. i was out for 4 weeks, i got paid for 2.5 weeks

I do believe depending on your insurance carrier that you have to be out for a week or more. I know for sure with my carrier that I have to miss eight (8) full days of work before any compensation beging and then it is 60% or my usual earnings.

If you are unsure just give your insurance company or your HR person at your job a calla nd I'm sure they can clarifiy it for you.

Hope this helps.

I would agree with this post, short term is more like weeks not days.

What you need are SICK DAYS for this :rolf

yep, most places are elimination or retroactive. All the car policies we have for auto loans are 14 days. So on the 14th day, it either starts paying then and you miss half, or it's retroactive, so it would go back to the 1st day. Either way, you'd need to be out for 2 weeks total

Don't know about disability, but I'm pretty sure you can at least get partial unemployment for that time off.

Our HR person quit earlier this year after working there for 16 years. Her replacement is not exactly "intelligent."

At the place I used to work at, we briefly had an HR girl who was about 23, b*tchy, and didn't know sh*t from shinola......she wasn't exactly "intelligent" either. You have my sympathies, lol.......I still think calling unemployment would be the best bet.

Word, I called both my disability places, and they both don't take effect until the 8th day of work that I miss. I am trying to get partial unemployment as we speak, waiting on the phone sucks. Hopefully this works, or I'm going back to work early and injured...slightly.

You can file for partial unemployment online too, it usually goes quicker.

I tried, it says I gotta talk to a claims specialist, I think the wait would've been shorter at the DMV. Too bad they don't have the "leave us your phone # and we will call you when someone is available" setup like WE Energies does. That's a pretty nice feature.

It really is. What pisses me off more than I have words to express is, a few times I waited through the 30 minutes of being on hold on various automated extensions, and when the "live" person FINALLY started talking to me, she put me on hold again.....and disconnected me........Soooo, I had to go through the whole process again. I was mad enough to spit fire.

from what we have encountered you need to be out a min of 2 weeks before anything takes place. unemployment can be denied by the company so I would ask them about that first.

Nice to see you up and contributing to some random unimportant thread Yoo!

If I can't get anything, I'll just have to go back to work early.
