Some Progress on the Creampuff...

So I've been working on this GN (aka the Creampuff) for the past few months at the paint shop, I'm just about finished with the facelift. Bought this car last summer from a 72 year old guy, its bone stock down to the chip (hence the nickname) but needed new paint like all original GNs do. It has just under 62k miles. You cant really tell from the pics, but my buddy Nick did a REDICULOUS job on ther paint and body. Its straight as an arrow, total showcar quality. I just wanted this paintjob to be "nice driver" quality, but he went nuts on it. He is also doing my fast GN.

Anyways, for the past few weeks I have been restoring all the trim and little odds/ends/detail stuff, new weatherstripping for the T tops and basic clean up stuff, on top of putting the car back together from the paintjob. The car is turning out really nice. Nick has been nice enough to let me use his shop to do all the putz work.

So heres a couple pics I snapped today, the initial compounding and colorsanding is complete, and most of the trim has been re-installed. I will be taking care of the final machine polish and hand glaze over the next two weeks, and the car will be pretty much 99% back together. :banana

i saw that too Paul.....i didn't THINK it was....the ripple bends at the end and chrome tips didn't look right to me...

i personally like the yellow Camaro vert and the El Camino that's standing in the corner waiting on its 572 create motor

but none the less..all the time Geno has in that car the times i have been at the shop...he's been there working hard....the car is one sweet ride....

Didn't think that was stock for TR's but not positive. Assumed they had black tails without any crinkle bends. Not trying to sound like a Negative Nancy, car looks great.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I'm really happy with how the car is progressing. No, the tailpipes are stock replacement that the old guy had installed on along with those ugly ass tips. I will be cutting the chrome tips off and painting the pipes black. Even at 60k miles the stock exhausts dont last when a car sits. This guy put on ~5k miles in 14 years of ownership. The car pretty much sat all the time.

When I got it, I had to do a ton of tune up stuff and replace some parts like water pump, coil/module, fuel regulator, battery, inner/outer tie rods, clean a lot of electrical connectors, all little piddly stuff that goes to hell when a car sits. Like I said, its not all the way there, but its getting close. Lots of time invested, for sure. There is about 90 hours of paint/body by Meticulous, and another 110 so far by me just putzing with miscellaneous stuff.

Gramps, I didn't know that was you at the shop, you should have introduced yourself and said hi! Thats my other GN over by Bill's side with the big monster Corvette brakes and 19" wheels (front clip is off). Thats the next project after I finish up this one.

Looking down the side of the car the body is flawless. Black is a bitch to get right but when it is it looks amazing.

I was once under the impression that doing a car black would be super easy, and would hide any imperfections. I was SOOO wrong!! When we did my car in flat-black, we had to make sure every single part was perfect. It was hellish.
