Just picked up Adam's new car from Dennis at Blitzkreig. Had a roll cage welded in along with mounting of the seats, new steering shaft, etc.

On to the pictures...

When we first got the car:

Is that a Taurus? That looks like one hell of a cage for, if it is, a taurus,,,

It's a 1990 Taurus SHO. Like mine, but white and option-less from the factory (no sunroof, no EATC (manual controls), no keypad on the door, etc.). California car, no rust, yadda yadda yadda.

What sanctioning body is the cage built for? kind of surprises me it looks like there are no gussets on the door bars

The cage cost $2100.
Dennis charged $150 labor to mount both seats, fabrication of the steering linkage from the stock rack to the Sweet steering column, and modifying the pedals to make them adjustable.

The welds are perfect, mounting plates are formed to the floor of the car very nicely, and bar placements is great. The bars are much closer to the body than I thought was possible. I couldn't ask for more. More detailed pictures to come.

Nascar style, pretty much, but you can open the doors and climb the door bars like a ladder to get in. Adam is young and weighs 130 pounds, so it's not a problem for him. Although it reaffirmed my choice of not adding door bars to the roll bar in my car.

Will do! It will be white on the inside and most likely Grabber Blue on the outside (although Adam keeps thinking Grabber Green). I like the newer Mach 1 blue.

That is next year's plan though.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with you......door bars= NO, lol..... I'm a small person, but I know I would somehow manage to bust my sh*t getting into/out of a car with too many bars........

Looks great!! So what else is planned for the car? I mean $2100 for cage there must be something else nasty planned. :)

Haha just noticed the license plate frame. I almost bought a car from that dealer when I was stationed at Fort Irwin. Now all I can say is fawk Barstow!!

What motor combo and stuff since it has a full cage??

michelle
11-30-2008, 07:13 AM
Motor plans aren't set yet, simply because I have other silly priorities like a house. (:

We're thinking 3.2 (car normally has a 3.0, but you can use engine parts from the 3.2 automatics from '93-'95 SHOs) for now and then eventually build up the internals for a supercharger when money and time allows. It's going to be a couple year project, but the main thing was getting this cage down while Adam had it all gutted out.

Thanks for all the nice compliments! Lots of credit goes to Dennis, that's for sure. He does great work!

Im looking into coil-overs. I already have the Corvette PBR brakes and a hand full of suspension stuff.

Yes, the plan is to have a low compression 3.2L built for Supercharger duty, but for now we're going to drop in a boring 3.2L and get it running and driving. Work out the bugs, then tear it back down and paint it.

When you want something done right $2100 was a reasonable price to pay.

Im unclear on the final goal but when you get tired of whatever form of racing you do it will make a good demo derby car....against pickup trucks or bus's!

Im a long time FWD guy, that is more cage than you will ever need. It looks fantastic and after building and welding my own 12 point cage I can say that took a lot of hours to complete.

The car is intended for road racing, yes it's more then needed, but if your going to do it, do it right the first time.
