Tapping a aluminum head and leaving it like that or helicoil it then?Im using studs in the head to mount the turbo manifold.

Heli is supposed to be stronger. At least on a aluminum intake.

use a threaded insert instead of a helicoil, it will be way stronger and the process is about the same as a heli

That's what I did for my sparkplug hole that stripped out on my 5.4. Was Highly recommended by a Ford truck site. 30K miles still good

yea, thats the only thing our shop will use on stripped sparkplug holes, the 5.4s are notorious for that

now is it better to go with finer threads or corse?i figure fine cuz it "bites" into the metal more.

So I fixed my truck for $100 rather than replacing the head which the Ford dealer wanted $3000 to do
