I thought the Gremlin's had the 304's, not the pacers? I'm not much of an AMC expert when it comes to availability though (ah, but their engines...)

I'd rock that pacer and swap in a fuel-injected 4.0 I6 in it in a heartbeat...it's a fairly simple swap, and it be pretty quick (190hp-230+ft-lbs of torque) and fuel efficient to boot!!!

Come on pork, do it!!!

The Pacer never had a four. It came standard with the 6 and later (1978?) the 304 V8 was an option. That meant it needed a different hood instead of the sloped original design. Originally known as Project Amigo, it was originally supposed to have a Wankel engine sourced from GM. When GM aborted their program, AMC was left with the tooling already in place and since they were a frugal company, they went ahead with the car anyway. GMs car line was the Monza, Sunbird, Skyhawk, and the Olds version whose name escapes me now. This is the reason why both car lines had such high drive shaft tunnels...to compensate for the higher output shafts of the rotary. Prince, although the later Jeep 6 would be a cool motor, the V8 is the better choice. Since AMC blocks are all the same, a 401 would be the optimum choice.

Huh. I was looking for a Gremlin or a Pacer but found a clean Eagle wagon instead. 4.0l out of a 99 Cherokee.
