well after months of speculation and anticipation it is finally official :stare

a lot to be excited about like a cold air intake, 3.73 gears, l.e.d sequential tails, and um...... well that is about it  i like the look and the interior, but not too much to be excited about in the engine department. the 4.0 returns :chair: and the 3V remains unchanged?!?! sounds like they are looking for affordability instead of true ability. they better have something up their sleeve for the future.

It'll still outsell it's competitors 3 to 1 I bet.

Not a fan of the exterior changes either, looks "Avenger-esque". Love the interior though!!!

Hey, it's better than a pinto-stang. Imagine a focus shaped into a stang...with a v6 as it's top engine, lol.

I'm guessing that the 420+ hp "hurricane" or "boss" engines will find their way underhood of special edition stangs...either that, or they are using their limited reserves in preperation for the "eco-boost" v6's to make their way underhood.

Both the challenger and Mustangs will be outclassed by the camaro v6...at least initially; then a new v6 should come under the hood of the challenger with similar HP/Tq of the camaro's 6, but with cylinder deactivation to boot. Haven't heard any v6 rumors for the stang yet.

turbos FTW. Chevy makes 3 valve horsepower with their v6. How long do Ford fans have to wait for these ecoboost motors to start showing up in dealerships?

Personally I like it.... It's like S197 meets New Edge imo...

If it has a better seating position than the S197 I might even look into ownership one day...

after expressing my complete disgust with this same fact on another forum and posting :

camaro>mustang, LOL!

i got a pm, not only telling me that i am not a true ford mustang fan and that i should buy my camaro now, because right before the camaro hits showrooms, ford will indeed release a 400 hp+ bigger displacement motor. i will have to wait and see what the ROUSH version looks like once they add a new lower front valance. if ford does indeed release a bigger displacement motor with forged internals, i will probably trade my car in. get decent amount for trade in, buy a 2010 mustang (probably a stage 1 or a sport) at plan price, and upgrade to a way better powertrain than i have now for really no cost out of pocket.

ford really has to have something planned, with the official release of the BOSS 6.2, chevy confirming the powertrain of the maro, and the challenger boasting big numbers, i am hoping that ford isn;t going to just rely on the price point of the mustang. we don;t need to go back to the new edge days.

that wouldn't take much.....they could bungy strap a milk crate to the floor and IMO it would be better seating and more comfort than the new edge cars :goof

Uh, I said better seating than the S197 cars, not New Edge... I'm very comfortable in my New Edge, but don't like how I sit in an S197...

My Mach 1 is actually comfortable, thanks to the extra bolsters and such that those seats have compared to a GT or 6-Banger...

The seating position in the S197 is light years ahead of the SN95 and New Edge. At least the shifter is in the same zip code as the driver, lol.

We've went through this before Bob, **I** personally am more comfortable in a New Edge car than an S197 car...

So do I....

as far as seating goes, I prefer the interior of my new edge over the s197's....the only complaint is that I wish the seat back would recline fartehr back.....and as far as the shifter goes......well that is taken care of by a short throw....feels just perfect now.

I like that it has cup holders, and that the seats are plusher, and that I can drive my kids to soccer practice in it. It seats 6 comfortably, also the back DVD player so my kids can watch cartoons while im trying to be a badass in musclecar. WTF?!:goof:rolf

x2

S197 has a fantastic seating postion and everything is centered around the driver properly, the only downside is while the interior is "nicer" than the old" it's still a plastic fantastic.

I watched the unveiling last night on Speed TV and I gotta say I really like it. The changes are subtle and IMO are all very tasteful and look good. The sequential tail lights are just cool. I think of the 3 musclecars I'd know have to go Challenger, Mustang, Camaro.

It's funny that the Mustang is on it's second redesign of this platform before GM can even get the Camaro on the road that they concepted near the same time as the Mustang was released. Just showing you how long it's taken GM to get this done.

Better late than never.

Id bet all the money issues havent helped it, GM has been sliding for some time now, but they still keep fueling the golden age of performance cars. To me this all feels like the storys from the late 60's you hear about, only its a modern muscle car revolution. Deff a cool part of history to whitness.

Karps TA
11-19-2008, 11:37 AM
Too bad nobody can afford to buy any of them. lol Atleast in the 60's these cars were cheap even by those standards. Now everything is $30K.

GM's also (IMO) been putting a pissload of other cars out. It doesn't help that BEFORE the 4th gens were dead everyone was already rolling around this basic idea of what this few 5th gen would look like. not easy to create a RWD domestic care program when none exists, so you have to essentially piggy back off the extremely successful Holden RWD platform. Seeing that all early 5th gen camaros were riding on the VZ Holden Platform (think GTO) and then were on the VE Holden Platform (think G8)

Ford does have a huge advantage of never missing a model year. They just kept going forward, whereas the GM cars needed a complete change to keep going. IMO the worst thing ever for these cars was that stupid hatchback setup. I bet they never would have died if they hadn't gone all hatchback back in '82 and stuck with it in '93
