I sold one of my cars a few weeks ago and got a reply from CL about the car..

Typical broken english and was told he wanted to pay me $4,000 even though I was asking $2,8000.. And he wanted the car even though he lives in CALIFORNIA!

So, I played along and this morning I get a check overnighted to me..

Now I await this asshats request for me to send him some of the check that I know is bogus..

The only thing that makes me feel good about this is because this dip stick paid to have this junk piece of paper overnighted to me and actually thinks he's going to get some money back.. Needless to say I will be 'playing along' for as long as I possibly can..

There is a very easy way to stop scammers from contacting you on craigslist.

Craigslist gives you the option of posting no email address so no one can email a response to your ad, Do that and just leave a phone number in the ad. Scammers usually wont call you.

I have done this several times and have never had a scammer call me.

Yeah isn't this mail fraud or wire fraud at the very least? Tell him to fly out here and pick it up in person and you'll give him a credit on his airfare towards the purchase of the car. :D

I work for a financial - I I'd bet that 99% of our tellers would accept that check as it is (of course it's not real... but we wouldn't know that until later that week).

The only thing fishy about the check is that it's #75... most business checks start at 2000 or greater, even then - businesses write so many checks that the number is usually ridiculously high.

I've tried so many times to get them to send me a check...... out of the 5 or 6 times I've been contacted, not one actually sends the check :( I must sound to eager.

I've always wanted to frame the check, and send them an envelope with a pic of the "car" and the check on the wall.
