This isn't politically charged I don't think, so hopefully it wont get locked...

So a friend and I were having a short conversation earlier, went something like this:

me: so did you vote today?
him: no
me: you going to?
him: probably not
me: why the hell not?
him: no ambition
me: no ambition on trying to control your future?
him: I believe it doesnt really matter

I really wish the younger crowd would get into politics more. Its like they don't care. Although I suppose I'd rather have them not vote at all then to just make a random blind vote for whoever the fuck they find first on the ballot. What are your opinions on this?

sounds a lot like me, but with out the ambition part... i have the ambition... i just dont feel the need to... i cannot stand either candidate... i would vote for the lesser evil, but thats not worth my time... were fucked either way you look at it... thats why i will not be voting... besides... its beautiful outside, gonna go spend some quality time with the wife...

Face it.. People are like cattle.. They are dumb and follow the person in front of them straight into the slaughter house..

Kinda like 7 years ago when we had hijacked planes flown into the WTC by muslims.. And today the country is possibly going to vote a muslim into the office..

Pretty messed up IMO..

I'm not down on all muslims but just feel it's a few hundred years too early for that such a thing to happen.. Thats all..

badass88gt
11-04-2008, 12:00 PM
I feel the same way. I have no faith that anything will change. That being said, I'm on vacation this week, I dont have shit to do, so I will go vote just to get out of the house. Not that it will matter, theyre already pretty much saying Obama will win by a big margin.

Thats kinda what Im thinking. There should be no "secrets", he should be honest about it. What bothers me is the video where he does not honor our flag during the National Anthem. That really pisses me off.

Either way who ever we get in office now we are still screwed.

You can either vote on someone that is just as shady as one of your neighbors or you can vote for someone that sides with the current president on the majority of issues and just gives you a dumbfounded smirk when he gets asked a tough question.

On topic: I learned growing up that we as american are given the right to vote and we should exercise that right no matter what. You may not see eye to eye on everything a canidate is doing but at least you may agree with the key issues on the canidate you are voting for

Remember that statement when your healtcare provider goes down the tubes becuase your normal doctor is to busy removing bullets from the thug that just came in or is delivering a baby to some non tax paying citizen who doenst speak english.... but its ok becuase the MD that will be taking care of you today is Achmed ku-bdual ashemerr who just graduated form the medical school of kabul, and out of his 10 years of clinicals he neglected to learn english. And when you look at your pay check statement and see all that money taken out in taxes, remember that well you just worked 2 weeks for that money to be taken out for a portion of it to goto some bastard bought crack with it and spent the rest on hennessy... I mean i give you credit for not voting for barack, but that statement shows how naive people can be

You guys are pretty behind the times for these arguments. They have all be addressed directly with solid answers, and yet the rumors are still prevailing. It shows me that people don't go out of their way to look past chain emails for their voting information.

What drives me nuts is how people keep saying Obama will win..

But, on site after site polls show McCain should win..

Examples..

A current poll on SVTPerformance:

Obama 20 16.53%
McCain 99 81.82%
I wouldn't Vote. 2 1.65%

On our own site here:

McCain 76 69.72%
Obama 22 20.18%
Not voting 11 10.09%

SVTP is a nation wide web site of car guys and mostly males.. BCM is a local site of mostly males.. So, how can so many news stations say Obama will win?

only after he was questinoned about it, that says alot about ones intentions. Or how about the $30K+ donation he got form one of thoes shit countries in the mid east. i cant rememebr which one it is off the top of my head... you know, thoes l ittle countries where much of their money comes form the opiod farms and are notorious to investing in terrorist organizations..... makes me feel real good about where this country is headed if this is OK in the mind of our president.

either way people should vote. i don;t care who they vote for, but VOTE. i would like to see it done legally, like for instance dead people and pets not voting or people only voting once, but it is never going to be a perfect process. voting is a freedom that should not be taken for granted. if the people in iraq can dodge land mines, snipers, and kidnappers to vote, what is anyone;s excuse here. too long of a line? too cold out? hogwash. get out and vote.

My bad, on the boards I frequent, here and nastyz28.com it is predominantly republican.

I'm really not trying to argue with people, it just bothers me to see the internet rumors still floating about.

None of it matters anyway, my convictions led me to write in Ron Paul. I refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils.

Yea, he's a smart kid.

The problem with your friend is a problem our whole country is having. PEOPLE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.

People are so quick to blame everyone else for their actions.

And by people saying "ah, my vote doesn't matter" they are just passin the buck. Then when shit hits the fan they are the first people to complain about how fucked up things are.

animal
11-04-2008, 01:07 PM
Why vote? Statistical probability is more in my favor to win the lottery than for my vote to make any difference at all:

Your individual vote will never matter unless the election in your state is within one vote of a dead-even tie. (And even then, it will matter only if your state tips the balance in the electoral college.) What are the odds of that? Well, let's suppose you live in Florida and that Florida's 6 million voters are statistically evenly divided—meaning that each of them has (as far as you know) exactly a 50/50 chance of voting for either Bush or Kerry—the statistical equivalent of a coin toss. Then the probability you'll break a tie is equal to the probability that exactly 3 million out of 6 million tosses will turn up heads. That's about 1 in 3,100—roughly the same as the probability you'll be murdered by your mother.

And that's surely a gross overestimate of your influence, because it assumes there's no bias at all in your neighbors' preferences. Even a slight change in that assumption leads to a dramatic change in the conclusion. If Kerry (or Bush) has just a slight edge, so that each of your fellow voters has a 51 percent likelihood of voting for him, then your chance of casting the tiebreaker is about one in 10 to the 1,046th power—approximately the same chance you have of winning the Powerball jackpot 128 times in a row.

Original article from 2004 but math certainly doesn't expire: http://www.slate.com/id/2107240/
(math formula references are given as well)

Seeing as wisconsin is classically biased to the left by a huge margin... I think I'll just go buy a powerball for tomorrow. Lines are shorter and I can't win money by voting lol :devil

I have a feeling there are going to be A LOT of write in votes for Ron Paul... way more than anyone is going to expect.

animal
11-04-2008, 01:15 PM
If write ins even get counted... A review of the 2004 wisconsin election results just had a "scattered" category on the list where all the non mainstream votes go. Sucks I can't even read what the write-ins were anywhere.

As animal stated...your vote doesn't mean squat. Sorry to ruin the parade.

The whole prospect of a republic is that the people are too stupid to vote for themselves for the president (which is mostly true especially regarding most obama supporters). What's more important is your state and local representatives which is the only reason I'm going to vote in this election.

I'm pretty sure that a real muslim, even if he was a super secret double agent would never be caught in a Christian church as it would be seen as the worst offense against Allah ever.

Secondly, HE EATS PORK AND LOVES HAM. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/04/02/obama_savors_some_very_special.html#comments
