I fly a lot, and am looking for a personal audio/video device to help pass
the time while on the plane. Keep in mind I know nothing about these things,
that's why I'm asking for opinions.

The first thing that comes to mind is an ipod, is that the way to go?

With that said, ipod is the way to go. Easy to use not much to break. Otherwise, I would use a laptop and buy an extra battery or two for dvd's (actually just copy the movie to the hard drive).

Remember to concider the size of your mp3 collection when buying a mp3 player. One guy at work has about 700mb of songs and got an 80gb ipod. lol

I have 11 gb on my 80gig including the movie "Red Dawn". I don't think there is 80 gigs worth of music I like in the world but eventually I'll put more shows/movies on it. People at work that have to fly a lot use them for video and music while taveling

my boss travels alot and said his Ipod touch is the best money he ever spent. Between dl'ing music, tv shows and movies he swears by it. I don't think any of the other brands have close to the support that Apple has with Itunes.

Buy a Sansa off woot.com (they show up weekly) for a few bucks. That way when you ruin it/lose it you don't care.

Keep in mind, this thing well be outdated (almost useless) in 3 years absolute max....18 months if you are into technology. I wouldn't spend too much.
