i totally disagree, but this thread is not for arguing, it is to remind people to use the freedom that many have lost their life trying to keep available :thumbsup

there are also things called absentee ballots, and this year there were many early polling places!??!?! not sure that there is an excuse not to vote this year.

Ahh, NO. Every board that tried that failed miserably and it just ended up getting deleted. They even got to a point of call outs for fights and beatings.

Also remember that this election will forever be a major part of US history. This is a date that your children, and their children will likely have to remember for a history test someday. After today we will either have our first black President, or first female Vice President. That's a gigantic step in this country and proof that America can move forward and that anyone can actually be what they want to beleive. It's no longer just rhetoric being stated by middle aged white men.

Yeah Mccain is done, Im predicting an Obama win by a good lead. Theyre projecting that McCain has 196 electoral votes and Obama has 318 and only 270 are needed.

There goes Palins dreams of being president haha.

When I stopped by the place at lunch it was just me and about a dozen volunteers working at the place.

It's like that every time I go.

People who have to wait more than 10-15 minutes should complain and have their wards expand their capability. If complaining doesn't work, wait in line 1 more time to elect an alderman who will do something for you.

I went earlier. What a clusterphuck. They had 2 old ladies working the registration table, one of them had a full diaper, the way she was squirming around. I had to change my address, girlfriend too, we get done waiting only for them to tell us they changed where we vote and had to go somewhere else. Now we had to go to a school and vote, and do you think they would have signs telling you where to park, where to go, etc? Nope. Luckily I brought my superhuman problem solving skills with me and we figured it out. Then it only took 2 minutes to get it done.

I tried to say screw it and just go home, but Becky wouldnt let me.

How about appreciating that they are even there? Aren't they volunteers? Next year you could take off of work and volunteer. I'm sure it would be wicked quick with you in charge, versus those "old retired blue hairs".

They do get paid, it's like $89 or something like that in Milwaukee. When I worked third shift, I was a poll worker back in the 80s. The reason you see mostly oldsters doing it is that the younger ones are usually at their regular jobs. Some of those old bats were pretty sharp.

So why on tv they always call them volunteers? Just wondering..... I always thought they volunteered too.

From the Wisconsin.gov FAQ:

ARE ELECTION INSPECTORS COMPENSATED?

Yes, election inspectors are compensated for working at polling places at a rate determined by the appropriate municipal governing body, and, in some municipalities, are also compensated for attending any required training sessions. Poll workers may also choose to volunteer their services by filing a written declination of compensation with the municipal clerk
