Your wires might need to be replaced. In my camaro I had a similiar problem with it stuttering up to about 2200 rpms. I replaced all my wires including the one to the distributor(that was the culprit) and it hasn't done it since. How long ago did your wires get done, check them out if it has been a while. I switched my stock ones with MSD and been good since

87 5.0 Mustangs did not come with a MAF sensor unless, it has been converted.

Might to consider changing out those wires if that was the issue

what about timing?

Well considering he said he jiggled his wires and then it worked I am gonna figure he had a loose connection

seems like that only lasted a day... feels like its back, lookin into some new wires and distributor... or will just drive it like this than rebuild over winter!!! including NEW EVERYTHING

That could be one way to ensure it doesn't happen again :headbang

If it is still Speed-Density, is the car modded at all?

I had a 87 late vert that was mass air. Usually with me when the mass goes bad it searches for a idle (revs up and down at idle) When your totally on it it should be a closed loop and run off the 02s. If its modded pretty good they jerk below 2500 RPM. Plus are you runnin a set of Bosch plugs in it ?if you are get them out of there!. Or if you bought them from a Wal mart. Get a set of MC or Autolites. I also seen that a lot when worked at a parts store. Did all this start when you changed plugs n wires?:confused......Nevermind I see ya prolly got your culprit.

the car just started doin it, so i figured i wasn't gettin spark and changed the plugs.... put some bosch in to get me thru the next few weeks... but it still does it? but now its gone again... i don't know whats goin on, only mods are intake and H pipe i just don't get it... vac lines are all connected

idles perfect tho.. a little high but needle may be off sounds fine

when I worked at the parts store I had exchange bosch plugs on fords. Guy would wanna change plugs and he would bring it back in witha misfire. It happended over 25 times when I was there. Dunno stangs and explorers especially hated them. Good luck with it though. I have bought walmart plugs also that I have personally ran and they run like sheet. Swap them out to another parts store and they work fine.

Look for ground issues..there are like 3-4 ground to chassis. The harness is so old that after you start and drive the car and it warms up- if there is any open/broken wires the heat is affecting it. Had the problem. I found a couple of loose grounds- one behind the battery. I eventually sourced out a NEW injector harness/computer harness online and that did the trick. remember all those 21 year old low voltage wires are brittle or cracked now.

also check the distributor module -that could have a crack in it.

car runs fine at cruising speed but sputters when you get on it, like from a stop light or getting on the freeway? 99.9% sure it's the plug wires. Just had that issue with my wife's explorer...replaced the wires and it runs mint.
