I need to buy one soon. Last year damn near killed me without one.

Anyone know a lot about snowblowers?

That one is in my price range.

I'd really like to stay under $600.

I like Craftsman tools but I've heard mixes things about the snow blowers.

Any other brands I should strongly consider?

Call Paul Martens @ Franklin TrueValue. 414-761-0800. Its on 27th and Puetz about. He sells I think Toro and Simplicity. His machines will actually last 10, 20, 30 years not like the machines home depot and walmart sell. You may have to pay slightly higher, but you get what you pay for! And if you do have a problem with them he services them right there. If you buy from these other big box chains, good luck at getting it repaired there.

Someone suggested Neu's in Men. Falls too. I would like to support the smaller places.

Franklin True Value is owned by a "little man" per say. He also is a huge car enthusiast as he has owned 2 Supras, a 3000 VR4, RX7, 911 Turbo, Eclipse, so on and so forth. Paul is a really good guy.

I was just looking at the Simplicity's and Toro's. Looks like you can't touch one fore less then $1000. I really didn't want to spend that much.

Hmmm, I may have to check Craigslist.

yep, buy a good one the first time around and be done with it. Nothing wrong with a craftsman as long as you maintain it. I have an old 5.5hp Craftsman that works well but I have had to work on it every winter so far to make it through another season. Buy a quality machine and you'll be glad you did.

I just put together a repair/adjustment prodecure video for Sears service techs on the Snapper snowthrowers sold at a sears, they are a decent unit for the price, its a hybrid between a Simplicity and a Murray... Maybe check those out.

Otherwise you do get what you pay for. Either way, its gonna have a briggs on it if its an 09' product, Tecumseh no longer produces anything.

Its a good thing!

well just due to price I think I'll go with the Craftsman one. I'll go check out Ace and see what they have and get some opinions there. If they have something better in my price range, great.

Same here. Also- electric start is a nice option. Keep in mind in 20 years a women may need to use it, if you are out of town or something.

At menards we sell brute and yardmate or yardmen.(i forget) But have like 2-3 and my store(westallies) That would be in your range and not that bad. I have used them outside during winter later year at work. It was one the brute ones worked good.

If you don't have to throw the snow more than 10 - 12 feet it would be hard to beat a new single stage TORO ?

I have one and I love it !

Exit, for the price of that one your looking at, you could really get a Toro CCR3650 or something that would run circles around that sears unit and be reliable too. Only bitch is its a 2-cycle, however the engine is built by Briggs for Toro too.

I will also back up the 22" Toro Snow thrower. I have the 6.5 Hp (I think) for $749. Bought it two years ago and it didn't snow, but last year I used it double time. I had my old house that I was trying to sell (Driveway was about 15' x 60') and my new house (Driveway is 10' x 450' + 30' x 45'). Never skipped a beat. The only thing I had to do was remove the second filter that they have in the fuel line and first time squirt some eather(sp) in the spark plug hole, after that she is golden.
