i had to put new rear gears in my wife's KIA today. The junkyard would only sell me the whole rear end. so i started to disassemble the junkyard piece and cracked a beer.
6 beers later i get the parts i want. when i finally got the truck put back together. "a few more beers later"
i was ready to test it out. In the driveway of course.
i put in DRIVE AND IT WHENT BACKWADS ! ? so i tried it in reverse and it went forward WTF!
so i left it and went to bed.
i went out today to see what I did wrong. and i put the whole carrier assembly in upside down :alcoholic :durr
Just thought id share it gave me a good laugh :)

You replaced a rear end gear set on a Kia? Damn, those can't be that old. Good thing the wifey didn't decide to go for a ride before you corrected it.

Is this why you went thru a bunch of rears on that Mustang?

We're gonna name you "Russ"!
8 projects going on on my truck last fall, jumped
in to back it down the drive (not on city streets mind
you I was drinking) and backed into the house. Seems
someone was gonna throw the front calipers back on
while fixxing 7 other things but forgot :o
Drinking and wrenching sounds like fun...till you wake
up and instead of repairing something you built a 120
psi can crusher out of scrap like Red Green would do...

Yea you just ruined a rear end unless that heap has a drop out hogs head, which I could see as I have seen those on alot of Jap cars.
Why wouldn't you do it right and just swap the axle ?

yup. drop out hogs head. no damage it spun freely even upside down
I was going to replace the whole rear end but the junk yard piece was damaged pretty bad when they hacked it off.

I put a clutch disk in backwards once... Even after I heavily studied it, I decided I still got a 50/50 chance of getting it right... I got it wrong :goof

Dont feel bad....I can hang 15" dual disc semi clutchs
in in the dark. The Mexican who rebuilt a clutch I put
in put the "this side towards flywheel" sticker on the
wrong side...and I followed his instructions..man was
my boss pissed "I dont give a rats @$$ what the sticker
says you gonna jump off a bridge if it says so?!"

Ever do bodywork on a car and forget to wear the correct PPE? I did that last summer. VERY hot, no-breeze summer day, in the sun, of course. Didn't bother with the mask, inhaled chemicals all day, and got sick as hell. Car turned out good, at least.
