well here is my problem. my son's school is a voting location.and i have a really bad feeling about sending him to school on election day.
I sat down with the school princible and she tried to ensure me that the children will be safe but would not answer my questions about what added security measures would be in place. i asked if i could keep him home she said yes but it would be consider a truancy and he would not get his perfect attendance award or "good choice award points" witch are important to my son.

My wife's says i'm just being paranoid.but after reading all the stories about sexual assaults and otherwise fucked up people roaming the school with 105 year old poll workers just makes me nervous.

i am going to see the superintendent of school today to see why this would not be an excused absence.

What do you think.

i would let him go. for the rest of his life he will look at election day and always remember having something to fear because you kept him out of school that day.

I say your over-reacting to the whole thing. Granted I'm not a parent, but at the school there will be teachers and staff around. I would think they would keep the voters in a seperate section from the students too. I don't think you have anything to really worry about.

I was thinking the same thing. While it is good you are looking out for your kid. He is going to have it in his head that election day is a bad thing and I have to stay away from it.

I find this somewhat hard to believe.it would simply be a day off for him
but i can see him being scared for life if "god forbid" something did happen to him

Ive went to a school that has had voting there every year for 17 years and nothing has ever happened. They are usually setup in a side hallway where they dont bother anyone.

The attendance awards are obviously very important to your son. Let him go to school. When he doesn't get that recognition, he's going to know who caused this to happen. I really don't think anything will happen as the voting is usually done at a side area or not in the main student area. And all poll workers are not 105 years old. I've been a poll worker in my twenties and thirties.

If you're that paranoid, give your kid a cellphone and take a vacation day, round up some magazines, and camp outside.

If you pull this off, I am almost certain that the local news will get ahold of you and mock you.

What's the worst that can happen?

I'd happen to think you do sound a little paranoid... Honestly, I don't think anything out of the ordinary would happen...
