I've got an older wood burning firplace that has a fan....but doesn't put out much heat. I'm looking to get some sort of insert to up the BTU's. Anybody know where to start?

It's basically one of those circulator type fireplaces....you know with the fan the size of a computer fan that just circulate the air around the insert and out the top of it through a louver.
I can barely even feel air coming out from that little fan.

Sounds like you need a new fan, can you post a photo of your fan / door setup? I used to install / repair similar units, lets see some more info.

Circulatory wood burners suck. 90% of the heat will always go out the chimney.

Depending on the size of unit, there are a few options. A zero clearance insert may be your best option, but not your cheapest option.

We sell Heatilator, heat-n-glo, and quadrafire brands.
