Was thinking about a a gen 3 or 4 engine for a project and seen the LQ4 was pretty cheap to buy and rebuild with a set of L92 heads and what cam i don't know yet.

So my question would be would i just be better off getting the LQ4 or a LS1 for more bang for the buck?

I know someone has some thoughts on this thanks:thumbsup

I am not speaking from personal experience however, from what I have seen lately there is a lot more that you can get out of an 6.0 vs. an LS1.

I wouldn't hesitate to run either. The biggest advantage is, you can bore an iron 6.0 block.

LS1 346 CI
LQ4 364, 370 with a .030 bore.

Do a 6.0, L92 heads, a decent cam, some spray, and hold the fuck on! That is what I will be doing eventually!

Well if your gonna put L92 heads on it, typically those require pistons with eyebrows notched in them for the larger valves. Even with forged jobbers they need a special L92 piston as the notches are placed kinda oddly.

You need an L76 intake, special rockers and so forth to complete the L92 package. Your better off with like a PRC stage 1 LS6 head from Texas Speed and a 228 ish cam and have it be about 10.5:1 CR or so, then use the stock truck intake that comes with the LQ4. Keep in mind your gonna have to spin it to get make power with them big L92's so upgrading at least the pistons and rod bolts is gonan be in order, my old 346 that still currently lives has seen 7K for most ofi ts life with stock rods and never missed a beat.

Plus you get the added weight of the iron block too vs an LSx. But if you are looking for complete, the LQ4 is a good way to get it from pan to intake, flexplate to waterpump and all sensors for like 500$. Score the hotter 01+ with the better 317 heads if you dont wanna spend the money on heads. The LQ4/9 shared these heads and mainly had a camshaft difference between the two.

I'm getting screwed... all the ones i've found are like 900+ :(

and that was without the core, hahaha

the 5.3L are dirt cheap at like 300-400 for drop in setups
