Looks like the underachieving turbo car went fast on only it's 3erd pass with a closer to right converter!

Still in the beginning stages of tuning, but a 8.41 at 173mph is not too shabby!:headbang

Congrats to Bobby, Tom at OTE, flying J engines, and the whole Over The Edge crew!

It is awesome that the pieces to the puzzle are finally starting to come together! The new wastegate works great and the new converter is a ton better! Those two things together made all the difference.

The best part is that its got moooore! (Just not the 25.5 part) :D

Thanks a lot to Tom at OTE, the master fabricator! :headbang

just think how fast it will be when you get your 60ft down to 1.xxx's what should your combo 60ft? dont take it the wrong way. you are on drag radials right ? is 1.4's the norm ? hey on a side note did it feel like 170's ? because my pass i also did not use the chute and it felt fast but not that fast.. after you got the time slip im sure you were as pumped as i was...

i think we all need to look at saftey next yr before we go any faster... im getting an engine diaper for sure.... and i funny car cage for that matter...

im sure winter is going to be alot better this yr for you ;) mr top dog...

We got down to 1.28 on the REAR wheels- you can take about .08 off of that with the front wheels down according to the chassis guru, Mr. Metz. Get ahold of me and I'll help you if Tom can't. Absolutely no offense but you have to have experience running this stuff to know how to fine tune them. Pinion angle? Instant center? Rollout of rear tire? Are they within XX" of rollout? How did the car scale? Etc. Etc.

With the turbo and on drag radials it is a lot harder to get the sixty down into the 1.2s. With a little more time to play with the setup I know Tom and I can get the sixty down though. Tom knows his stuff, in fact he helped another fox body get his sixty down to a 1.25 on a 28x10.5 ET drag and stock suspension. It will just take some more test and tune. I only have 3 full passes with the car and all of those passes were messing with the boost controller to get it to ramp boost in quickly.

Thats why I went to Byron, because my sh!t is weak and I need all the help I can get to make it go fast.

In all honesty, Ron (owner of Byron Dragway) calls it "the fastest drag strip" and I know why. EVERY car I have been associated with, owned or worked on, has gone .1 to .2 faster there than the exact tune-up at the 'grove. Here is an example.. The 'bird went 7.96@164 at Byron lifting between 1000 and 1100 feet. At the 'grove it went 7.95@182 with the EXACT tune-up, running it out the back door.????
Then figure in the 60ft time was only .002 FASTER at the 'grove, the 1/8 ET was app. the same, along with the 1/8 mph. I think the ET should be a little different considering 18mph slower! I pick up 40 to 45mph out the back door, depending on launch(spin or hook).
Randy's numbers with the '69 Cyclone differ the same amount there, along with Metz' Malibu.
BTW, this is in NO WAY meant to change what Bobby has done, his car is badass and has ALOT left, I felt this was info you guys should know.
Nothing like possibly having a track a little short of 1320ft to call it the fastest!
This info is the general findings and opinions of racers with cars in our general ET.
I figured I'd share this so you guys won't beat you heads against the wall trying to make sense of it!
Thanks, Jim

well Jim what i can tell you is that this yr i ran 9.50 cap class and many times i have ran 9.52 or 9.50 out the back door at 147. but i have also ran 9.54 and 9.53 lifting at the end because i had a good lead and ran 130's mph even 129 once. i asked a good bracket racer about this and he told me that it is easy to scrub off mph but harder to scrub off E.T. so id say you can run close to the same et with slower mph lifting. does this make any sense ?

I would think so, that is why it is opinions. This discussion was started between Metz and myself a couple of weeks ago. After talking with him, I asked some of the Modified/SS guys what they thought, including Randy, the owner of the '69 Cyclone I help with. The general opinion of all the people I spoke to actually was that the track length could be in question. I have personally seen Randy have a clean run at the 'grove of 7.76, then shake the hell out of the rear tires at Byron and run 7.77. Then we look at the 7531 MSD graphs and the racepack datalogger, and it should not have run 7.77
Bobbie, this is and was never meant to be an arguement or to discredit what your car ran. I brought this stuff up at the WRONG time, and I can see how you may have taken it that way. I was just talking drag racing. I AM happy for you and the people that help you out.:thumbsup

How do you explain a 7.9x/360ci/x-trim combo on radials not running his fastest pass there if it makes such a difference? He lives super close to the track, tests there a lot, and his fastest pass is not there.
Of course I was going to get offended with that being posted in my congratulations thread! It would be like if I went into your congrats threads and said that there was no way you made those 7 second passes on VP 93.
Thats cool though, I'm moving on....:thumbsup

I am done arguing on this site.

I seriously feel like an idiot even being involved with some of these arguments.

I am done trying to tell Ron that his clubs slogan is BS. It is my fault for sinking down to the level of evening trying to point it out. I have no problem with Ron. He knew damn well that the slogan was going to piss certain people off.

I will leave you with this. Aaron's car did not make a full pass. But even with his 1/8 mile hits, he is within 4 tenths of the fastest YSI car in history.

I know I sound like a dicck when I say this but if you haven't "done it", you cannot understand why things get heated.

Well I have been in heated competition before, granted none of the cars that I have had have gone into the 8's however I have had cars that have compeated in national events that ran 11's....apples to oranges, I think not. It is all the same....Remember last year, beagle vs me....that got pritty damned heated between me and him, and it eventually evolved into a NS VS SS battle, however the only people really racing who were in the battle for the NS was me and the queen

So you "heard" my car was together all year? Have you been in my garage?

Let's see hmm... The car was together finally the last weekend in June. At that time we sold our house and the new house did not have room from the car so it was stored somewhere.
We then moved into our new house and did the normal new house stuff like painting, redoing the bathroom, just getting organized, etc.
Once we got settled I started playing with the car a little and had a month long electrical gremlin. I also could not justify spending the $$ to go the track @ this time with the new house.
The times I did go to the track it was for license passes which I screwed up and went to fast and not in the right order.
I have limited time to work on my car, we have a 2 and a 4 year old and my wife works 2 nights a week and Saturdays. My kids and my wife are what is important to me so to think that I would take time away from them to prove something to you is laughable.
While this may seem like excuses or a pity party it isn't, it is just the way it is and the way I choose it to be.
Hopefully next i'l be able to make it out more.
